I have a terrible time with constipation - am taking sufficient laxatives for sure - 3 laxatives and a laxative taken in 1 glass of water every morning. Don't care to mention the names on the internet, or tell me it's okay and I will. Have a wound packed and it is very painful - seems to be making the constipation worse. Could someone please help me. I'm desperate. Thank you for any help you may have. Sincerely - Millie

I totally understand what you are going through. I take 3 dilaudid a day and one of the side effects is constipation. First and foremost for me, exercising every day is a must so I do not get constipated but if I do, I have a precription from the doctor for senekotof which I take 2 tablets twice a day. That seems to help me. He also prescribed lactulose if the senekot didn't do the trick but I haven't had to go that far yet. Oh and also drinking lots of fluids helps me as well.

I often have the same problem because of the medication I take. As a last resort I go back to the old Epsom salts, they can move mountains. image002

If there is no movement at all then you'd best see a doctor ....soon.

Lifesavor, I was given Miralax by my dr. for constipation. It isn't harmful to the body at all according to my dr. and has no favor or grit to it. You just mix a capful of it into an 8 oz. glass of anything, such as water or icetea or gatorade or anything. When I'm really bad he has me do it up to 3 to 4 times a day. If I'm still having problems he adds Sennacot to the order, too, but that's rarely needed.
Good luck. If you are really packed in go to the ER. It can be very dangerous to be that constipated. I've spent 2 weeeks in the hospital constipated before and it wasn't nice.
Love, Sue.

I have a friend who told me about his father being constipated. His Dad had lung cancer and was given morphine which made him constipated. My friend told me that Miralax worked for him. His Dad did pass away.

I have IBS-C (just means the constipated type) and I'm now on oxycodone so it's really quite a balancing act. I keep my diet very strict. Breakfast is always 3/4 cup Bran Buds, Lunch must have at least 7 grams of fiber and snack is a high fiber muffin I make. Since making sure I get those elements every day, I have not had any probs. On the other hand, Lactulose etc do nothing for me.

Millie; would love to help you out there a bit (in generic terms) but.... don't know where you're out of Canda, US, elesewhere (Diff drugs names) or your situation.
I know what usually now works for me and is given to folks like myself with small blockages, and taking morphine/opiod treatments. They also use it for Palliative folks (whuich I'm not.....) There's no pushing, no pain noe cramping...

I take Morphine 3 times a day and the one side effect I have is constipation. I have tried most everything available and finally found that stool softeners worked the best. I take 2 docusate sodium 100mg tables every morning and night. Normally that's all I have to take but every now and then it take a dose of Miralax just be sure everything is working right.
