My mouth gets so bad I can scrape it off with a butter knife and I wake at night gaging Pretty sure it's in my lungs ! It's created a sugar addiction with .
OH, Symbicort is the cause but any steroids can cause it I just can't keep it under control.

Hi Al, I had a quick look around on the net and came up with this, I hope it helps a bit. www.patient.co.uk/health/oral-thrushThe only other thing that I have heard of that may help is Probiotics, which is supposed to replace "bad" bacteria with good bacteria, I have never tried it, but maybe you could check it out.

You'd need to eat a lot of yogourt to get the amount you'd need. Better to take probiotics or acidophilus pills. The swish and swallow is good for everyday and with the added probiotics you should be okay. But it will take some time....maybe 2-3 weeks? You should notice a difference in a few days tho.I think a lot of us take probiotics or acidophilus every day as a preventative. We take more if we are also on antibiotics and prednisone. I started out using live bacteria capsules from the health food store but were more expensive and needed to be kept in the fridge. I use acidophilus from the drugstore now as a preventative from inhalers etc. and take more when using Pred/antibiotics.
My first sign that I'm getting thrush is the tip of my tongue gets tender. That's when I know to start more acidophilus. Good luck.

Al, in addition to the nystatin (prescription) and acidopholus (non-prescription), there are two other suggestions my doctor has given me. The first one is to take one of those one-time yeast infection tables (canesten or something similar). I've done that while on holidays without nystatin and it worked wonderfully. The other suggestion (more preventative) was to make sure that I brush my teeth right after taking Advair (or any other steroid puffer). That has really helped me avoid more infections. I was getting them every two-three months and (touch wood) it's been a lot longer than that now.
Good luck with your search for something to help. This is a good thread for many of us and I learn a lot from what others are posting.

Try asking your Docotor to prescribe or use silver nitrate sticks or paint you throat with that stuff they use on kids when they get it.

Stoker, I hadn't heard about this option so I will ask the doctor when I get my annual checkup. Of course, just after posting what I wrote earlier I developed thrush. Ugh.
