Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease Your FEV 1 ( Forced Expiratory Volume in 1 second) is your percentage of lung capacity and it's usually what the doctors use to describe the severity of your COPD. Your predicted FEV 1 percentage is based on your weight, height, gender, and age.

Considering I got diagnosed in 2008 - I had 2 numbers given to me - one was 38% and the other was 52% - I believe the last time I saw my lungs specialist was 4 years ago - as he kindly kicked me out as I was 78% on a good day and I kept it up for a while. Next time I see him should be soon - he wanted to wait 3 yrs - I pushed for 5 - so when I turn 55 next year is when I will make an appointment. I may even make one earlier - just because.... So I am in moderate section but high moderate closer to mild - so that's good!
Thanks for the info Susan, much appreciated. Had not looked at this for a while.
