Not sure if I posted it here or not but just to let you know we lost ''Kylees Nan'' (Shirley) and ''Puffychestnut'' ...Shirley had the transplant but do not know when......also TJ Webb (Lisa) earlier in Jan and Idozy passed 2 days ago....She was the lady who ran the Penalty Box.

wow! that is a lot of losses I haven't been to DS in a long time, since they lost my name & password I couldn't log in & check on "friends" any more. thank you for the update peter. I tried again the other day to log in with my old info & still can't get in (i keep hoping that it will work some day, but i guess not)---do you see "jarca" anymore or did I get lost when they lost my way to get in? (just curious if my profile is still there or not)

Will check.......Grace Me posts ocassionally and one or 2 others but it seems a lost cause personally.......I checked into the old COPD International n i guess with 2 posts the resurrection failed.....Even the new site they started up when things looked bad is struggling.....guess the days of the old time forums are over.....COPD.portalone the other main one is chugging along slowly but guess not many new folks are joining n it's the same old crowd with nothing much to talk about.....Anyway i got kinda booted just before i found DS because i was too cheeky n angry and took on the very up himself owner..xxxx and felt it was time to leave ha.....
FB now is by far where most hang around in as it is spontaneous and has too many fun features and video chat as well, which i rarely use except to talk to Beth's grandkids n my semi adopted little girl who i will never meet again xxxxxxxx

I've found there's some struggling going on with support sites e.g. support and/or social. For me, the changes in DS were to mimic social sites - there was somethings about the re-write which to me were annoying. I don't have a problem with balance within a support group. (So far, here it seems if I don't feel like chatting, I can skip that Forum.) I remember on DS, a group member complained because someone discussed their vacation. I didn't understand the reaction because we must have a life with COPD.

My prayers is that everyone stays, and gets along! As I love this forum, and finally got to know at least everyone's name and a little about you all. So hang around and stay happy!😊

DS tried to copy the FB Based.......MyCOPDteam site that did it's promotion very very well...It is far too big now but still pretty good to meet and friend a few that you can relate with........DS had it's own distinct format that we grew up with. Even with minimum Bells n Whistles, it was very user friendly....In their rush to change over they left many many members lost n confused with log in issues, a pretty messed up main page and consequently it collapsed..
The worse part was people used Nicknames so not many knew their real ones......Because of this trying to contact them via FB was impossible...

Well I sure hope COPD canada & world keeps going as I love it here & really starting to feel at home. DS was home to me as it was the 1st support group I found when I was scared, alone & in pain with my disease. I was lucky that it was a very active board (like this one) at a time I needed. The change with DS, many (such as myself) may have put up with & stuck around, but I could never log in under my name "jarca" again. (to this day if I try to log in it tells me that my name & my email are "taken")---all i needed was a password that would get me in as for some reason mine one password I ever used, would not work. I tried just making a new name & password, but that was worse as I couldn't find "my friends" list or my journal or my pictures or any of those things that DS had offered us.....I think the thing that Upset me the most was losing my PM letters (as i still had saved letters from friends that had passed away) & the ability to "click" on a friend & find them. I was like a fish out of water not having my whole persona & private pages accessible. I wrote so many times for their help to get a form reply letter over & over. (heck, all i needed was a new password & i could have gotten in, but they would never send me a temp password that would work). Anyway, it became very frustrating for me & I gave them a year before I finally closed my "new" account.....I still wish I could access those old letters, my journals & pictures. Oh well, I am so happy we found a home here. I use Facebook to keep up with my kids, grandkids etc & a couple of friends from days long past. However, Facebook is really a mess now days & I have been tempted several times to close it; the only thing keeping me there is family. IF they ever come up with a new "social media" that my kids & I can go to I will be an "X" face book user in one easy click! I tried several COPD sites on FB & as you said they are so big that I felt lost in the crowd & didn't last long at them. Forums like this are much more my comfort zone. = big enough to keep active & small enough to actually learn peoples names & get "to know" them. Joany, I remember when someone got in trouble for going "off the topic" of COPD several times; on DS you talked of COPD Or someone would complain! That was the sad part there, is people seemed to wear their feelings on thier sleeves & take things very personally. but if you dared mention you visited your grandkids or went somewhere for the weekend there was always someone to scream "OT"!!!! funny, but not funny....that started the death of that board because many started becoming afraid to post so would only come to read. Ah, memories

ps. I had a private forum like this one (was a yuku board; started out as ezboard), then "blogging" became the big thing to do, then Facebook came (along with farmville that i was hooked on) remember when you only allowed 45 spaces per post in facebook= whew, that about killed me (but i kept my forums for a long time during "the days" I hope they come out with something better than facebook soon.....and go back to being over 18 to post

I only have one friend that I met over 15 years ago on AOL day's. And she is one reason I'm on fb. And family. Other then that, the games. I'm on fb about once every 3 days if that!!
I go through the recipes, around here what it was like in the past.
Talk to a few friends I connected with from grammar school, and belong to a few other groups like music and tag sale stuff. That's it.
So thats my other hobby I guess.

I think i am just about the only one commenting in DS......Graceme dropped past and asked why new people were replying to topics that were 2 -3 years old???.......BTW Jarca there are some interesting comments by both of us from the past .....One from the S/Fox about Prostate Test he had and I asked him if it was the same condition the big guy had from the movie ''The Green Mile''..... Anyway my reply to Grace was ''Because they google online and old DS posts come up...so they think it is an ongoing topic without checking the date..'' Sad really cos it has zero chance of getting put together again....I just hang around in case I run into people we knew or try n redirect newcomers to other sites as there is no one replying to their questions....

Facebook / forums;
We started out with 25 members back on March 26 2007.Beginning with our founders Phil and then Jackie W who then passed the Admin torch to me . We all had hopes of being an online family . I do believe that goal has been accomplished and is ongoing . It started out and still is a peer to peer forum. On any given day anywhere from 4 to 14 people will come to the "Backyard fence" to share and another 200 or so "guest" will come by to read . Others will share on diffrent topic in different sections and bring in new info to share. Myself as well as our assistant admin Jim have noticed the effect FB has had on copd sites and to somewhat has also affected ours .I will from time to time make slight changes. The only major change was a few years ago when Pro Boards our host , introduced a major format change that dictated a lot of work for board admins to get ready for the change over date . In the long run our site is a lot easier to maintain than the old one . Our changeover went very well . We regard each member with equal importance like the grains of sand on a beach . The beach is important but without each grain of sand there is no beach . So whether you have been here for some time our just joined today, you are an equal member of the family with the common bond of helping each other to live the best we can with this disease called COPD. In conclusion ! We here @ COPD IN CANADA AND THE WORLD are not FB and have no desire to become FB . With the help of you our members, Co Admin Jim and our Global moderators Mary ,David and Suzanne . We will do our best to help each other live to our fullest on the journey of life with COPD . Love you all; John 4xvim2p

John, many thank to yourself, Jim, Mary, David and Suzanne and any others that I may missed to all of your time and effort in making this forum possible and for making it possible for it to carry forward.
I think the work you do here helps to provide a support net for a lot of people who do not have any place else to turn for answer, support and a bit of advice from people who have been there.
Thanks again to you guys and all that came before to start this up

Jade....why does it ring a bell? ? hummmmm and you did say something in the Over the Backyard Thread......OK could you be my friend from Torquay? Melb. Victoria.....with a ''Y'' Anyway great to see another former DS'er.....Grannie's first name is Joan but I never knew her last name....We last PM'd in May this year.....She spent all her time telling jokes in the Penalty Box....but none of us can trace her.... BTW Jarca..you are in my friends list twice....The new one is Jarca 1 n has a big exceptionally ''fat'' white dog, as your avatar......Today your 2 year old topic ''Albuterol PFT test = COPD'' is the headline act......The reason is the same ''scammer'' that is active on most forums left a comment.....

And what a comment!
It appears this person's COPD was so bad she was considering Lung Reduction Surgery, BUT she read an article about a lady in Canada, who was "totally cured" by an herbal remedy purchased from South Africa. She ordered the same product and PFTs proved her lungs were "repaired" in only 30 days.
Amazing stuff. (Grin)
What is perhaps most telling on where DS is today is that post has sat there for seven days without a single comment.

Hi Gail... Daily Strength was a forum very much like this one was in the early days before FB came along....A few of the new members here came from DS......When they decided to change their format and go modern, they did not give people any ''real'' warning and people were left in the dark with all sorts of issues.... What DS Management failed to take into account that people were part of a family group for many many years and to pull the rug out from under them was pretty cruel....There were many private messages, friends lists and photos that disappeared...The worse part was people mostly used nicknames, so unless you were in private contact like FB...we cannot contact members anymore to pass on to them to come here,,,plus a few were very sick at the time and we do not know what has happened to them... Here is their Link if you want to check them out...You can log in via FB or need to sign up....well that is how i got in...others like Jarca have had password problems as their original ones no longer worked... www.dailystrength.org/group/copd-emphysema/discussion/new-here-67#reply

Hi all, My computers hard drive quit so I have been without for a month or so. To answer some, Grannie comes on FB once in awhile. She has not been real good. Some of us from copd and penalty box are in a group called PB2. Elsie sue (dennygenes wife) Imarighter (Candace Kooiker) Grannie ,Jazzkeys (Terry) and a few others are in that group. You are welcome to join us, but we just post stuff, and keep track of how everyone is. There is not hardley anyone on DS anymore. I gave up. I found some old posts by going through friends posts for a time, it was fun to read. Jarca your old profile is still there. I tried to keep the smoking board going for months but no body posts there either. I have not gone back since I got my computer back. Glad I have this site because I learned alot from the info on DS and can learn from here too, and make new friends. Losing all those on DS was very depressing. So many have passed.

Thanks Sharon...I drop in ever so often just to sticky beak....Only Softflower has posted a couple of times over Chrissy....She was the first one along with Peta that I met but not many people knew either well....Brenda is totally involved in her own exercise group and we are also FB friends....Yes it is very sad specially not knowing about Jim, Kitty and a few others.....
Jarca yes you are a member twice over and most of my old PMs are intact.....but those that have passed like Drink Coffee, Dennis, the ''Breary Bear'' and others are no longer listed like before.....
