hi everyone. My name is Jim and I was just diagnosed with COPD Friday, 27 Feb. I went to the hospital because of difficulty breathing and the tests revealed that i have lung infections and COPD (bronchial). The next step for me is pulmonary function testing as soon as the infections are cleared up. Then i will sit down with the medical people and work out a management plan to slow the progress of the disease. It was comforting to find this site and be among people who have walked the path i am just starting out on.

Jim and WELCOME! A heck of a way to meet BUT....You're on the right path! There's lots of great info and combined knowledge here.... our members are pretty diversified when it comes to info, different situations and stages.... AND; if they don't have an answer for your question..... they'll point you in the right direction. Have you joined our parent organization yet? Membership is FREE www.copdcanada.ca Also; when you have your PFT, ask for a copy for your files. You can then go to www.copdcanada.ca/pft_numbers.htm where it'll show you what the differnt terms/numbers mean if you're interested. Anyway; have a look around here; there's a LOT of info.....if you've any Q's; just ask. If there's a discussion you want to participate in....jump jump right in. You can't get your feet wet from the shoreline! My name is Jackie aka Blossom. I look forward to getting to know you!

Welcome Jim, Sorry to hear about your DX, but seems like you had a productive trip to the hospital. At least they took the time to go beyond a chest infection for you, and to plan for the next steps. You must have come home and hit the internet for info., you sure hit the payload with this site, there is a great deal of friendship, info, and kindness here. Welcome, Mary

Thank you all for the warm welcome. It is greatly appreciated. Your reassurances certainly helped stop the world from spinning about. And this site gave me lots of information to reassure those about me, especially my children and siblings. Hugs to each and every one of my fellow travelors.

Isn't it apt to have a Murphy join on St Paddy's month. Welcome Jim and as others have advised you poke around go down all the roads both here and at the parent site. This long standing information is in addition to the current information and care provided here each day. You were smart to find the site so soon.
