.
During the last 12-16 months, my PC/Windows XP system has gotten slower then a frozen turtle. Ya. That slow. LOL!!! I downloaded a few "so called" Free PC Optimization programs and ran their initial scan feature. One product shows 800+ errors and a different program shows 1,200+ errors. Errors from Registry to file extensions to possible corrupted files type errors. Even if they are 50% accurate (from an intial scan perspective), that's still 400+ problem errors on my PC. I tried to run each of their "FIX Errors" button but one needs to buy their software. Ya. Free scan but they expect you to buy their product to fix the critial found errors.
With the above in mind, is there a FREE-FREE "pc / windows XP / Internet access optimization" program / utilities I should use? If I need to buy a a product, what specific product do you recommend?
thanks.

Spike -- Without a doubt, the best one going is Superantispyware. To install it on your PC go to: www.superantispyware.com/?tag=GOOGLE-SUPERANTISPYWAREGo to: Popular LinksClick on "Download SUPERAntiSpyware FREE Edition"Install it and whatever it finds it can fix. Make sure you download the FREE version. Many of the other trial software find problems that don't really exist to scare folks into buying their product. Good luck. -- Vic P.S. -- One other thing that will slow down you PC is too much mail in the Outlook Express folders.

Spike -- Another thought...have you defragmented your hard drive recently?
You should be able to do so by going to: • Start; • Programs; • Accessories; • System Tools; • Disk Defragmenter. Run a disk test and it will let you know if you need to defrag.
Also, have you checked to see if you Hard disk is getting full?

Very good Vic ....... You should conduct a little anti scam in service for us. Your comment re they try to 'scare you' into buying is very astute .... I say 'should' in the sense that it is a service you could deliver effectively. In no way do I want to burden you.

I downloaded this free software, ran its scan and it found 769 Threats on my PC. As suggested, I deleted (fixed) all threats. I also sorted my many Outlook Express emails and stored older files in archives. Only kept current emails in my Inbox. Also ran Windows DeFrag and did a few other improvement changes as well. My PC\Windows XP\Internet access system is now much, much faster. Thanks for helping me out. My slow Turtle has now turned into a normal fast Rabbit. (giant smile). Again. Many thanks... .

Another thing that will bog you down is your temp files. Go to Internet Options and then Browsing history.Click the box for delete temporary internet files.Helps a lot especially if you go to game sites such as Pogo.

Just another thought - I understand you are running XP Click on start - Programs - Accessories - system tools and disk cleanup Advisable to run defrag again with all the cleaning up you are doing - Once every week or 2 - I run a couple of free programs in addition - Lavasoft.com Free version of Adaware; Sysbot (free); and Malabyte (free) also - I think there would be hundreds of different ideas about this but it works for me. - Another thing is if you can is set a USB external drive of some sort and transfer music and pictures and videos etc Let me know how things go Good Luck with speeding things up -
