2 large Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and cut in 8's ( total) 2 - 10oz. cans crescent roll dough (used low Fat) 3/4 cup butter, melted 1 cup brown sugar 1 tsp. cinnamon dash nutmeg 12 oz. ( or more) Mountain Dew Seperate crescent dough and roll around each apple wedge, sealing well. Place dumpling in ungreased 13 x 9 pan ( or 2 - 8 x 8 ) Mix melted butter, sugar and spices and pour over dumplings. Pour Mountain Dew over all. Bake 35 - 45 mins. at 350 deg. * I used 2 pans and since I had to buy a 2 l. of M.Dew I used more than called for. Could have used even more since the more you use the more sauce you'll have. You could also use Ginger Ale. Not pretty when you put it in the oven but looks nice when you take it out. I used Mac apples since they are my favorite but they got awful soft. Will use recommended Granny Smith next time.

I had to check this out.
Mountain Dew is unusual. I usually make a white sauce that I can just keep reheating when I eat the dumplings. This sounds awesome, and gonna get to stand to get apple to try.

Sandy, just a quick question. The recipe says to bake 35 -45 mins. How do you determine when they are done? By color?
Thanks. You are right, it does sound wierd, but yummy, too.

They should be golden brown. One cracked open and I put a knife thru the hole to check softness. The sauce boils down to a nice golden colour and is fairly thick and sweet. Only had a spoonful of sauce for each so will add more Mountain Dew next time. It's really sweet and sugar could be cut some. Grandson loved it with some icecream.
