I just got the call that I do qualify for the study. I don't know yet which group I will be in, they will notify me shortly.
I think I will go ahead & document what the process is, even if I do end up in the control group.
11-15-13 I received a letter advising of Appointment. 11-18-13 Went to San Antonio & met with Dr. in charge of Clinical Trial. Received brief exam and did 6 min. walk. 11-19-13 Had tests done: CT, Echo, ECG, PFT & Labs. 11-25-13 Got call from Trial Coordinator that I qualify for Trail.
When I arrived at the Hospital on 11-18 My Husband & I were met by the Clinial Trial Coordinator and she stayed with us thru all of the testing. She expidited the process whenever necessary. This really helped reduce the wait times and made it a more pleseant experience.
I will keep posting as the process goes on.

I hope it works out. I've been looking but can't find where it mentions groups. How would they divide the groups? It's not like you're taking a placebo.

Sandy, 50% will get the coils & 50% will be in the control group. It is a random computerized selection. The Doctor's that do the followups will not know if you received the coils or not. The control group will exit the study after a year, while the coil group continues for 5 years.
"After the 12 month visit is complete, those patients assigned to the Control Group may have the opportunity to participate in a separate "follow-on" study to receive the Coil procedure after a medical committee reviews the 12 month study safety data and allows the follow-on study to proceed."

Okay...now I understand. Thanks. At least the control group has a chance. Actually, might be better if they correct mistakes from the receiving group.

Mel; CONGRATULATIONS!!!
If you're interested, and I know we certainly are, if you decide to document the process, you can start a new thread specifically tracking you/thr process or one of the Admins can create and move your posts into it.
Either way is fine but we do hope you'll take us along on your new adventure!

I just found out today that I am in the Control Group and will not be receiving the coils at this time. If all goes well, I will be able to get them at the end of a year in the Control group. Thanks to everyone here for the positive energy. I'm a little depressed, but maybe it's a good thing. They will have all the kinks worked out before I get them.
Blossom/Jackie W. I still plan to document the process, so if you want me to start a new thread, I will gladly do that. Should I start one under all things surgical or is there another area?

Mel; please check your private messages. If you're not sure where that is, look at the very top of the page, under the title of the forum (COPD in Canada & The World), you'll see some headings. One will say .... Messages. Click on it.

Mel: Congratulations on making it into the LVRC trials. Being in the control group is the best place to be. I just talked to my trial coordinator and she said that 3 of the 4 sites in calif. are shutting down, can't get enough subjects through the PFT my being one of them. Best of luck and please keep us posted. crusty

On the other forum, we've got a new member who wrote something like I posted as a quote. She is M and I will refer to her as 7. The ones on our forum who had this treatment are all women. I asked did they know if men also were treated and they did, so that's just a coincidence.
