Hi M
I'm going to be of no help because my husband has never used one - nor has it been suggested. I understand it benefits those who retain carbon dioxide. Hopefully someone in this group has experience and can help you out - it seems to be a quiet group right now but I'm sure you'll get some helpful responses. B

Sorry, M, I don't have experience with the Bi-Pap either. I hope that someone that does can help. I know if you do a Web Search for Bi-Pap. You will come up with a lot of information...

Hi M,
Sorry you haven't had much response to your question but this is one thing I've not heard discussed by anyone on here yet. Maybe you can be our forum knowledge person if you get some experience with it. I'm pretty sure I've seen it discussed on the main COPD Canada forum and you can go over there and have a look or just post the same question to them. That board is actual patients, as well as some caregivers, and there is a wealth of knowledge there. If you haven't been there, the link is
philns.proboards.com/index.cgi?Sorry your question has sat so long without much of a response but it seems to be really quiet on here these days.
Hugs,
Mary

Hi M
A was put on a bi-pap the last 2 times she was in the hospital. They put her on it when her oxygen would drop and she hated it. She also had a DNR order with her and she viewed this as artificial breathing. I know she didn't like it, in fact she tried to rip it off in the hospital. I had to be her voice and make it clear this is not what she wanted. She was likely in a different place emotionally than your husband. So, he may feel differently about this than she did.
It is difficult to have a conversation as the mask is strapped to their head tightly and the machine is noisey. For the short time A had it on, I think it helped bring up her oxygen levels.
Sorry this is not much help. All the best in making this decision.
Take care,
A
