1 1/2 cups flour 1 cup sugar 3 tbsp. cocoa powder 1 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. salt 1/3 cup vegetable oil or butter 1 tbsp. vinegar 1 tsp. vanilla 1 cup warm water
In ungreased 8" square cake pan combine flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt: shake to level off. Make 3 holes in mixture. Pour oil into one, vinegar into second and vanilla into third. Pour warm water over all. Mix thoroughly with fork. Bake in 350 oven for 30 mins. or until tester comes out clean.
Do not over bake. I actually like it if it falls in the middle...but that's just me. Check after 25 mins. tho.

Thanks, Sandy! I wonder the same as Blossom, why can't mix in bowl and pour into pan? And, do you grease and flour the pan sides?

Ladies, no don't bother with a bowl, thats the idea. No don't grease and flour the pan either. Just works better that way. The version I use is called dump cake, same thing though, just a different name.

Mary is right. Mixing it properly in a bowl gives it a different texture. I've tried it. You could always try it both ways and pick the one you like. There's a spice cake and others too.
