As you know we have been minding one of my daughters friends cat while she works over in Britain. My daughter stopped by for a wee bit this morning. This cat just hates her with a passion. This cat hisses so fiercely that it starts to gurgle. While my daughter is here the cat also hisses at me. My daughter has two cats of her own and works at the zoo. Do ya think maybe this has anything to do with it? Although we do have a girl visit that owns a rabbit and the cat doesn't react this way with her. I'm more a dog person, though I do like cats. Any imput would be appreciated.

Cheryl,
This is only MHO but I think that the cat considers your a daughter a threat to her in some way. Maybe your daughter has always been there everytime her friend has went a way the cat will remember and that and blame her for taking her master away. It has been my experience. Hope this helps.

Rosemarie My daughter was here when the cat was dropped off. It just seems like such a strong reaction.

Cheryl,
Cats are strange and you never know about them. Very independant does your daughter talk with a louder than normal voice? Is she quick moving? Walk hard. They don't like any of that.
But honestly the difference between a dog and a cat is this. A dog comes when its called a Cat take a message and gets back to you. And also your little kitty doesn't feel you are doing her a favor but that she is doing you one by being there. My advice find something the brat really really likes and play the game of you want this then we do this. It will work but only in a lot of time.

Wow, do you think it can be the animal smells that your daughter works with? Animals noses are extremely sensitive.
Maybe the cat equates her with danger.

Rosemarie and Linda -- The woman who actually owns the cat also works at the zoo, so I don't think it can be the smells. My daughter has been gone for hours and this sweet little kitty (tongue in cheek) - is still hissing at me.

Hi Cheryl. I cannot contribute anything that has not already been said. However, if you or anyone else has any real cat questions, here is a forum www.catforum.com/That particular forum is my favorite type of forum. I started on one like that. I don't believe they are free at all. I know the one I learned on was a Senior forum and was paid for. Proboards seems the closest to it. Keep them separated.

Cheryl,
I am afraid you have yourself one scared kitty. Be careful with her. They can jump and claw and bite if they feel threatened the hiss is her warning . Sit down and just keep baby talking her telling her you are not going to hurt her and what a pretty kitty she is. Love will over come. but if you don't really like kitty's she will sense it and nothing will work

Thanks for the link Mary -- I'll have a look-see. I do like cats, just not scary ones with big teeth - So far today she seems o.k. When I woke up this morning she was laying across my stomach. Finicky little thing, eh?
