Since you all are kind of the "founding" members of Phil's forum, and there's no other place I can really put the candle so that "it sticks" ; please vote on your preference for the top header. DO NOT FEEL you're betraying either and no comment is needed. Moreover; no one will know how YOU voted as an individual. You can only vote Once. Since we live in a democracy; the majority rules. Thanks, Jackie Sorry but I modified/added this as of Monday June 18th....The POLL will close Thursday June 21st......Last chance to VOTE!

Hi Jackie; Just a thought but ~~~ Why not both???. Leave the Canadian flag on the left and put a burning candle in Phils memory on the right.

.
To me, neigher picture icon is the best.
To me, the icon in the top left main page should NOT be the Canadian flag or a lit candle. My reasons are: A Canadian, USA or a different country flag immediately gives the impression that his forum is "country specific". Or, is only intended for Canadians. Or, a Canadian who is trying to indirectly promote their country. YES. I'm proud to be a Canadian but for the many Web Sites that I ask my office team to create, I would never ask them to put a Canadian flag on it. Company logo and a cute saying but never a Canadian flag. A candle is a nice icon and being "for Phil", a lit candle would be a great honor to Phil. However, new "future" folks joing this forum wouldn't immediately know what the lit candle is for. Yes, the previous folks would know (for Phil and the others we lost) but the new folks wouldn't understand the meaning behind the candle.
------
Being a COPD forum and knowing the COPD has no age, country, religon, sex or smoker / never smoked person boundaries, may I suggest the icon replacement (re: top left corner) be a universal type symbol. Something that is related to COPD, something that is cute, the icon isn't country specific and something that both previous folks and new folks can relate to. For example, a picture of lungs with universal red cross overlay. Thus, showing that this forum is to help folks provide better "aid / health" to their hurt / injured lungs - regardless of their lung problems.
Hope this helps...

Good idea Spike. Keep the Canadian flag for copd Canada and rewrite the script for this one and make it a universal symbol. Spike, just a thought but I know how busy Jackie is, do you think you could come up with some design that would be more indicative of copd. Something unique that you could patent and if it became a universal symbol, just like the red cross, or any other instantly recognizable company logo you could become rich and famous and donate all proceeds to our cause. As ever, bear. ;D ;D

I voted for the flag, Phil started the forum to include and encourage the people of Canada, Phil did encourage what he considered friends to join as well, so it started with an international flavour. That international flavour becomes very clear to any reader, the flag shows its origin. Had it been started in New Zealand I would love the NZ flag to be at the top. Just putting myself in the place of the Canadian poster.

I voted for the flag. Phil was very proud that this is a canadian site. Phil chose the flag. I think we should leave the flag. I see no need to change it. IMHO bobbioh

I wrote out a post and thought I posted it but it isn't hereeeee! Strange! I wonder what else I did today?? . I voted last night and I didn't see any comments and so decided to not explain my choice. I tried to think what Phil would want. I chose the flag thinking Phil liked his Canada. He was creating the 'first' Canada COPD forum. Everyone was welcome to join and the membership today shows that. As time goes by and the forum grows it will have its roots, base, beginnings, whatever as Canada no matter what directions it goes.. There can always be a permanent sticky topic with some special dedication to Phil. This would be better determined after some time goes by as there are people still grieving

I like the idea that anyone is welcome to this site, but Phil was proud of the fact that this was the first "Canadian" forum. I also like the international flavour. My vote is the Canadian flag prominent, but also have other countries flags present.

I chose the flag as that is how Phil started it, and I believe he wanted to reach people in Canada, not that the rest of the world is not invited everyone was included, but there was nothing up there in Canada. He was always caring about someone else getting the word out to those who want/or need to hear.

I voted for the flag also, because Phil was wanting to reach the people of Canada, also welcoming anyone... anywhere... with COPD..I liked what Spike said about the candle in honoring Phil ..but there will be future folks that will come thru..I feel in all that knew Phil.... there will be a candle burning in our hearts.

HI all,
You know I think Shawna has maybe hit on your answer to the question in her last line. "Dad was proud of the little Bear" Now I am sure you all know the Bear she talks of why not Phil's Bear which has the Canada Flag and to all who knew him it would be in his memory.
In deed one saying is very true "The Apple Doesn't Fall Far From The Tree" Welcome Shawna and in MHO a very good idea.
Happy Trails

You all have spoken and I thank you for your votes and comments. The flag will remain. Over the next while I'll set up a "tribute" type area with the candle in memory of this forum's founder. Phil. The reason for the poll was to find out whether you felt the flag should stay, or if a candle should replace it (for Phil and all COPDer's) In other words...keeping the candle lit. And we will....
Thank you very much everyone.... Jackie

Thank you Jackie for all you do for COPDer's everywhere. And for keeping this forum even after the loss of Phil. I like your plans. JMHO
