I'm gonna try to make a long story short...In the past two years I have had 5 surgeries. Right knee replacement Left hip replacement hernia repair, 2 times trigger finger release Having copd, each of these surgeries took a little more lung function away...my last surgery was my hip this past December. I never got back to my normal function and the past two months my breathing has been terrible so my primary doc ordered a echo stress test of my heart to be sure it's okay...this first test was two weeks ago. They stopped the testing and said I needed a nuclear stress test. Had that last Friday and two days ago, Monday May 8, I went to hospital for a heart cath....results Congested heart failure, Check heart attack past two months, Check 2 stents placed at that time, Check think I won the booby prize... I now have a whole new schedule of things to do...cardio rehab, new meds, no salt etc etc etc they sent me home the same day as the cath, times have changed ..the concern I have at this point is all the things they tell me to watch for and get help asap, are symptoms I have everyday with my lung disease, hummm will attend heart education this coming Monday and maybe that will help me to know the difference...this is my new news.........

Zoom, Some journey…I hope the Heart Education class provides you with answers to some of your questions. I’m sorry to hear about these cardio and breathing problems you’ve been having. I look forward to hearing about what you are told in class on Monday.

wendy, I'm amazed. But, I have a friend who has gone through very similar issues over the past year. What they can do now is amazing. My friend mainly has to follow the instructions and she's okay.

Wendy, I am sorry for the trouble you are going through.
Be careful when dealing with the Cardiac people and ensure they understand about the COPD and other issues. I was diagnosed with the Heart failure 8 months ago. Unfortunately the cardiac staff have little understanding of COPD and some of the medications they attempted to prescribe make the COPD worse.
I found I had to adopt the medications one at a time so that I could sort out the side effects.
If they are prescribing Betablockers be very careful. People with COPD can have very negative reactions to them and they can affect breathing dramatically. The only studies done with COPD and Betablockers have been done with people that have Mild to Moderate COPD.

Wendy, what a road you have been on, and still your spirit is optimistic. As Gerald said be vocal and in teaching mode with the cardiac staff, and check for interactions with any new medications that are prescribed. Sending healing thoughts and prayers your way. Big HUGS for you.

Terribly sorry to hear how much you have been thru and what lies ahead...I hope every thing slowly sorts itself out..I agree with Gerald about the Beta Blockers, as it was my GP who actually stepped in, when it was suggested to take them.... Attachment Deleted

Had the rehab origination yesterday.....spent over an hour talking and I tried to get to the bottom of differences between heart and copd...the bottom line, anything I am feeling right now (tightness, sob, pains etc) are from my lungs.....any new and sudden symptoms would probably be my heart....they also want me to go slow and ease up.....at home also....hard for someone nicknamed, Zoom... They had me do ten minutes on TM at a very slow speed....will go three mornings a week.......

Zoom,
Good luck with the cardiac rehab and thanks for the update. Look forward to hearing more about it.... slowing down doesn't sound like you. I also have a busy schedule and push myself. I'm pulling for you.

Have rehab three days a week and they sure are going slowly with me. NO treadmill....I'm only allowed to do things that doesn't have to do with my body weight (I'm only about 10 pounds overweight and that's not the reason) guess it's too hard on my breathing/heart....sats went nuts....so I do a recumbent bike, the nustep, an arm thingy and then weights, sitting down.....behaving at home is impossible as I have things/people to take care of ..... Saw my pulmo doc and he wants aanother EKG taken this week because some meds I'm on can affect the hearts' electrolytes and wants to see where the status of that is....gesh, another area of heart for concern ......... gaah
