There are many POCs on the market today. I know here in the US many oxygen providers only offer 1-3 different manufacturers. Each POC works slightly differently. I posted last year the Pulmonary Paper's annual review of the models on the market & updated information by Ryan.
Only if there is a large response here will I post this year's Annual Review. I don't know how Canada handles the way you are provided/instructed/tested for a POC that is best for you, so I will leave it up to you all if I will try to post the review. John has given me permission to proceed if I feel it would benefit you....I ? him as I didn't want to be in violation of 'marketing.'
I'll check here later in the week.......

Hi Skate...In Canada when your Dr. prescribes oxygen for you the company comes to see you and gives you whatever they feel you need...I had to do a 6 minute walk with oxygen and without it, the breathing test and the gas test they do in your wrist. Also Dr. ordered a chest X-ray...
In my home I have a large concentrator and 3 or 4 M6 cannisters plus a portable small concentrator. Also have another larger tank in case power goes out but never had to use it. Our oxygen is covered by OHIP in Ontario. If I need anything I just call and their here the next day.

Skate, it would be appreciated if you could post the Review.
We need it in Canada if we are going to buy our own POC. Sometimes the system will only provide bottled oxygen and in some cases that will not suffice.

Barb - who calls a company to provide you your oxygen? Do you have a choice of which company to use? If they give bad service, can you transfer to another company? Can you try different POCs? I realize you are using the self-fill bottles off your concentrator but you also mentioned you have a small portable concentrator - please explain what this is?

Hi again Skate....My respirologist makes the 1st call for oxygen, then the company which is medi-gas comes to see me and sets me up...Never had bad service....I don't have any bottles that I fill myself....They are M6 cylinders that are filled with gas when I get them are good to have in case power goes out....My one oxygen concentrator is a big one and I also have an inogen oxy go portable which is handy when I go out....All work well for me...If I run out of anything I just call my oxygen company and they are here the next day...They have a respirologist therapy nurse on their staff who comes periodically to see me and assess how I'm doing....I see my respirologist every 6 months. He has me on the antibiotic azithromycin 3 times a week hopefully to keep bugs away...Seems to be working so far as I've never had an exacerbation and I'm classified as severe COPD.

I have the same as you Barb. My PCA has to call anything I need on Monday and Tuesday is delivery day, I have to complain, my Pca called in last Monday and they never came, he called the company and they said sorry will be here by end of day, still no show, I called ask what's the problem? No problem she's says just list you're slip. I said I'm so glad I keep 3 bottles of 02 at all times for this reason, then I proceeded to ask if I need to go somewhere else? Oh no she says he will be their tomorrow, finialy he showed up late afternoon. She made mention of please put my dogs away, I said y? One is bl8nd and deaf weighed 14 pounds and is 13 years old. A very small poodle! My other weighed pounds and just likes to bark, so this must be the problem, they are afraid of my 14 pound dogs. So I put them in my room till he leaves. Wow, so I'll just drop dead bc you couldn't tell me this long ago? Gee thanks!

I'm Medicare customer in South Carolina. I'm extremely disappointed with the person who delivers my oxygen tubes. I wanted to change suppliers. Seems that some of us on Medicare are subjected to bids on Oxygen supplier. My current supplier "won" Seems like there's nothing more I can do that I can afford for the next 2 years.

joany - did you check the list in the DME suppliers directory? You just need to put in your zip code. Same page also has a list of the SC counties that are included. Just go to medicare.gov, upper 'search' and DME providers. You may already have done that.........

Joany I'm also on Medicare and they treat me like that too. Gosh, I can't help I have diseases and have to be disabled. Around here they could careless if you breath or not. I might ask my doctor for another supplier? I know of one in Pittsfield Massachusetts institute where John lives. Maybe they are better! I have lincare only bc they are about 5 miles up the road from me.
