Good morning everyone, its been awhile i have been on here, but i do check in from time to time. I have a question. I have COPD, and now on Metformin, for my sugar, and i seem to be loosing almost a pound of my weight every day, any suggestions on how i can put them back on. I have been eating food with less sugar, but not gaining weight.

I think you may want to check back in with your doctor ASAP. Metformin should not cause dramatic weigh loss. And from my understanding weight loss of over 1 - 1.5 lbs per week can massive strain the liver and kidneys. Dramatic weight loss from COPD can by a problematic. All that being said, this article shows the foods to help with weight gain (you will have to cut and paste the address into your broser) www.health.com/health/gallery/0,,20385813,00.html

Thank you Gerald, i did call my doctor, and he said Metformin was the best product , and he didn't seem concerned about my weight loss. I will give it a few more days, then call him back to do something else for me.

I know that there's a range of weight changes due to COPD and meds. Several here gain weight, and several lose weight. I'm a weight loser Why? What I know for sure is that my appetite was extremely poor. I THINK due to meds and tubes, I had a strong negative reaction to smell and taste (wouldn't be surprised if vision entered too.) My medical support just asked me to eat better. Over the past few months, since my issue was no appetite, I've concentrated on keeping my nose "clear" and brushing my tongue (some meds leave a powder even after swishing water). I have improved my appetite and gained some weight - ongoing project! I'm not concentrating on "good for you food" yet. I just appreciate having a bowl of ice cream after dinner. Take care.

Joany, i am happy that you are starting to gain weight and eat better. It sure is hard to get through, but we have to keep going. I like the ice cream part you mentioned, i heard there is some for diabetics, must get some, so i won't feel so guilty, and better for my sugar readings. I also have to eat more at meal time. Take care.

Hi Peg, whole grain pasta ( which is OK for diabetes) with cheese sauce ,easy to make plus some green vegetables should be healthy, tasteful.Pumpkin seeds , recommended ,high calories. Roasted pumpkin , do a lot , excellent leftovers for soups and sandwiches (brown bread, cheese and roasted pumpkin)

When I was on metformin, I lost 30 pounds. All I did was run back and fourth to the toilet! I couldn't KEEP any food in me! I found out I was alergic to it. They took me off and my sugar stayed fine, y? Because I lost so much weight at that time so my diabetes went away . Also when I'm put on prednisone that makes me have diabetes high blood sugars so I have to be careful and knowing that I eat candy and everything else I can't help it. Not funny, but I'm like that, someone says u can't do that then I do it more . Anyway I put weight back on because I was on steroids I'll have to have my blood sugar checked again hope it's not high. I take pumpkin from a can mix it with honey and cinnamon and you can put that in a little pie dish you know the little pies they make with graham cracker crust well you can put the pumpkin in that and eat that has vitamin K in it, a vitamin we can't seem to get enough up for our bodies. And it's very tasty too when I'm not feeling well I eat that and it really helps me, it's like a pudding pie and you can put on some whipped cream if you want I think they may have some Diet type. But you can have some sweets just have to be careful with what you have? I wish you all the best Peg, Gail Oh peanut butter is great too the. All natural ingredients with honey in it instead of sugar, I love it! Also I eat a lot of jello and Yogurt and diet popsicles for the sweets I missed. Also make yourself a yogurt parfait? you take plain yogurt any kind you like and we mix in a little fruit oranges apples whatever you like put some granola on top that's optional and it is very delicious you can use honey for your sweetener or any other kind of sweetener that's of diabetic and it's very good for you you can get the vanilla yogurt to and make it you put any fruits and that you were not in as much as you want. And I get the plain granola that has no sugar in it very good that'll help you gain some weight, and please call the Dr and be sure you're not allergic to the mat forum, they have a nice evening Gail.

Thank you everyone for your support and suggestions, it means so much to me to have that. I will try your suggestions. I have 2 appointments out of town one on wed, and one on friday, so, next week i will get in and see the doctor about my weight and see, gail maybe your right, i might have an allergy to metformin. It doesn't make me run to the bathroom though, but its the weight loss i am concerned about. I will let you know what happens. You all have good days ahead, and take care. Bye the way, i live in northern ontario, in the bush a small community, its about 2 hours from one city and 3 1/2 from another. Where is everyone from on here? Sounds like some of you are just getting up and i am going to bed, so there is time change for sure. I am curious. Bye for now.

I live in South Carolina. I moved here from Massachusetts and New Hampshire to get away from the icy cold. This year of 2018 appears to be a stupid move - Brrrrr!
