My older age eyes are failing fast. Now need reading glasses for everything. And, starting to need more lighting (along with my reading glasses) as well. For larger display thermostat, I was thinking of: www.amazon.ca/PRO1-IAQ-T701-Non-Programmable-Electronic/dp/B009RO8QVUDo you guys have a large display (non-programmable) thermostat ? If yes, what make/model do you recommend? thanks.

Spike, We have a new Thermostat that is by Nest. You can control it from you're phone when you download the appt. It programs itself then pays for itself.. Bob has to put it in. But the box says saves energy up to 10-12% on heating bills and cooling bills. That means it can pay for itself in under 2 years. Its called nest. It has a larger and sharper display. Go to nest.com/works I hope this might help? Good luck.

Thanks for your reply - about your wi-fi / programable thermostat. Sounds like a complex Formula race car.... L0L!
For me, I like manual, no wi-fi, simplicity and low cost. Had programming and during electrical storm it got scrambled. Thus, why I only buy simple manual controls today.
For our cottage, its either fixed at 45F (winter), 70F (for heating) and 77F (for cooling). Don't need programming for ups/downs. Reading its numbers (its display with ease) is more important than fancy features. Kinda like the used vehicles we buy. L0L!

Oh Spike you don't have to download the appt. It's si if you're away you can turn you're heat up be4 you get home! Or down when gone. Also work's manually. You dont need you're phone just you're finger .

This morning at my local hardware store, I bought low cost manual thermostat with large display. Did I mention "easy to use" and "easy to read" and "low cost"? Did online review research and many other folks seem to like it as well. Especially its "easy to use" design. re: www.amazon.com/Honeywell-RTH5160D1003-Non-programmable-Thermostat/dp/B079Q5MKHQIf wondering, this will be early Christmas gift to our cottage (as well).

Good for you Spike! I'm glad. After more research of the unit I bought, I'm going to return it today. Reason? It's not simple enough. re: It lacking a simple heat-off-cool physical switch on its outside. Yes. I want "that simple" with big / easy to read number. And this one doesn't have it. Now, I got my eyes set on an Emerson brand thermostat - made for elderly users (like me).

At my home, its thermostat "number" kept changing. My wife would change it and next day, its number would be too low again. After 3 changes, I took a look at it - using my 3.25 zoom Dollar Store glasses. Yup. Someone changed it from Manual to Program mode and its program mode was screwed up. I changed back to "manual" and its been working great since. Guess I need to remove / replace the programmable thermostat at my home as well. Especially since "simple controls / easy to read its display" is my wants at home as well...
Now... I just need to find a way to get a new cordless phone with large numbers. They seem to be making them smaller and smaller with harder to read numbers as well. Sad Face....

Im sorry Spike. Why don't you buy a cricket phone? Huge letters and numbers. I could see it from here to you're house . I head. Those are good for seeing better. My eyesight is going down the tubes fast. Everything is blurry. I hope i pass my driving licence? Take care of you my friend. Gail xx
