Alrighty this is my first post on the forum âĻ and So embarrassing, but I may as well get it out of the way.. I have searched the forum for posts on this issue but didn't find anything. When I am short on breath, even if I 'just' went to the washroom, my bladder lets go. Any tips on how to get control of that?

Hi Evie, sorry I have no tips for you, but this is a common problem with people with COPD. I have a urine bottle alongside my bed for if I wake up with my breathing way down and can't make it to the bathroom. Maybe one of our other members can be more helpful.

Evil - yes, as Jim said, this unfortunately is a common problem with COPDers.
Apparently, lower muscles relax when our upper body muscles tense during a SOB episode. âšī¸
For years I have worn a thin pad. Makes me feel more confident.
Hope this helps.

Welcome Evie, I noticed I've changed many ways as I got older and sicker, hang in their girl. Maybe you can talk to your doctor about this? If your to shy, then do a face chat with your doctor or phone chat and tell them all this, it also could mean you need your bladder tied back in place. I had that done after my hysterectomy he said he pulled it up. He did a hammock type of deal. . Anyway we here talk about anything never be embarrassed to ask anything, we all have many same problems! I'm Gail and it's wonderful to meet you. Keep coming back and enjoy.

I had that happen, a few years ago. Happened a lot. I think it quit when I learned to sit down if I get breathless instead of trying to keep going. I would try to keep at what I was doing and it would just gush out. It has not happened in a few years now, but I try not to get short of breath to that point and sit and get my breath back, before going on.

'Sit on it' ... that's great advise, really. HA HA . That's not exactly what you said, but same thing to me. I chuckle at that. I hope you do too
I use protective undies and such - but am going through A LOT of those. It does make sense though to sit down 'before' it gets so I HAVE to pee right where I stand. I need a slower pace re most activities these days and am working on adjusting how I do things to prevent and handle 'short on breath' episodes.
This summer has been a rude awakening for me. Gardening has gone from a loved hobby to a dreaded chore. Last year it was okay - but this year the ground seems too far away to be bending over, carrying planters feel exceptionally heavy this year and is a sloooow process. I have been waiting til they need watering to handle them. I have taken to sitting down to weed and even hold the watering wand takes my breath, so I sit. Amazing how far I can shoot the water on the jet position... My aim is getting better and better, and I can get all my front garden from one central spot. It takes a long time but it's still relaxing.
Truly, embracing sitting down is great advise. Thank you
Thank you very much

Evie, As Jim says, I can't garden anymore. That was the love of my life. I could go do garden work and just putting my hands in the nice cool dirt. Now I can't even bend over and I'm winded! It used to be my get away from my mind haha hobby! God to much always going on inside my "mouse house" in my corner" Hope everyone is well?
