3 pounds meat, cubed 1/2 cup soy sauce -- Kikkoman 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar 1 small onion -- sliced 3 cloves garlic -- chopped
Combine all ingredients in a pot or crock pot and cook. ( I prefer to cook in a pot on top of the stove...) The longer it simmers, the more tender the meat will be. The recipe is also very forgiving. If you don't like garlic, leave it out. If you want to try it with ginger or hot peppers or anything else that you fancy, toss it in. Just don't change the soy sauce/vinegar ratio. And don't add any water because it makes lots of gravy with out water..

It is very good, but you need to cut the pork, beef or chicken into bite sized cubes.

Linda, as usual I have a couple of questions. Why do you feel this recipe is better cooked on top of the stove rather than in a slow cooker? What do you serve with this and how do you serve it. do you use the regular soy sauce or low sodium one?
I am definitely going to try it....bought the soy sauce yesterday
PS someone else did the shopping for me and got LaChoy...hope it as good as Kikkoman. I am not an expert of soy sauce.

Sorry I'm so late. I just got back from my home town.
Bobbi, You don't need to bother browning. It gets nice and brown when slowly cooked and the sauce reduces down to a nice thick "gravy".
Ann, any soy sauce will do. I usually buy what ever is on sale at the time. So far, so good. So brand doesn't matter.
I prefer to do it on top of the stove in a heavy, covered dutch oven.
I did it once in the crock pot and the gravy was too thin.
All meats seem to produce a lot of water/liquid when cooked in the crock pot.
