Good morning all. It has been quite a week here...one of our very good friends (also from NS) got the call!! Her husband called me at 4am on Monday morning. I quickly showered and headed for the hospital. It was a very long day, she didn;t get wheeled into surgery until 4:30 PM! The wait was made worthwhile..they were doing another transplant on a women from the treadmill room that we know as well!! Both surgery's went very well and both ladies are making progress everyday. Our friend was up and out of bed yesterday for about an hour, sitting in a chair and the physio people came up to start exercie with her. The breathing tube is still in but they are hoping to remove it today. I did go into the ICU with her husband when they brought her out of surgery (he didn;t want to go in alone). I wasn't shocked or surprised at what i saw and I think in the long run it will help me when it's our turn. I have been in ICU before when hubby was on a vent but the extra lines and machines where a bit different. During the surgery the circle of friends we have all came to the waiting room to wait not leaving until the surgery was complete. The staff in the ICU were amazing, after our friends husband and I went in they let the rest in for a few minutes as well. The were very supportive when he told them that "family" was also waiting. They realize that for alot of us family are those we come to know and love and support. We are now all praying for these to ladies to make a speedy recovery! There have been 24 lung transplant this year and 60 waiting!!
