I spent 3hrs at the pulmonary drs yesterday, I did two different types of breathing tests and a chest xray. The first was a pft and I scored a 93% on my FEV1 before they gave me the bronchil. Then my chest xray was normal. She also had me do another breathing test where I had to pant and then while panting the machine would give alot of resistance. I did really well on that one.....she said one part 80% was normal and I scored 104%....the other part was normal at 60% and I scored 75%.
She said yes the ct scan showed bulla..........so based on the ct scan I do have bulla but I have no lung disease. She said my lungs are healthy, she did say its still a good idea to cut down on the cigarretes or quit all together, but she says due to the breathing tests I do not have copd.
I was amazed because during the breathing test I was afraid I wasn't blowing enough.

Great news, smoochkin! And great advice. Please, please, please try with all your might to kick those cigarettes as far out in space as you can. Take if from all of us who waited too long before the damage was irreversible. We know how hard it is to quit, but I know I wish somebody had talked me into quitting before I got sick. I'll say a little prayer for ya!
Hugs, and big grin!, Sue

Thanks to everyone. And I still will quit smoking, it was a wake up call! I did find out the name of the last breath test they gave me. Body Box – also known as plethysmography, is done while sitting in an enclosed clear chamber while asked to perform a series of very small panting breaths. This is the most accurate way to measure lung volumes This is where I scored the 104% and the 75%. Didn't know if anyone had a clue as to what I was talking about

Yeahp; I've had the test done....probably many of us have. But; here's a link from the main site if anyone wants to have a look see at one. Looks like a phone booth. It's halfway down on the page. www.copdcanada.ca/pft_numbers.htm Also explains how it works. Good Luck to you Smoochkin!
