Started my physio at TGH yesterday. For the next three to four weeks I have to go three days a week to work out. After that, they will release me back to my home program where I have been working out twice a week for the last seven years. It was very busy in the physio area. People working out, those coming for an initial assessment and those who are pre transplant and there for a reassessment. The area is very small in comparison to the program I attend at home which is unfortunate. Most of the exercises are stretching or with weights, both arm and leg. I also did 20 minutes on the treadmill which for me was pretty good as I'm only used to going 10. Also I did 10 minutes on a Monarch bike. Gord helped me by completing the card after each exercise with the pertinent data, wiped down the machines and weights after I used them, got me water, and looked after the putting the oximeter on my finger and recording the data from it. I'm calling him my Cabana Boy! Today I'm a bit sore in the muscles that I haven't used before but other than that I feel pretty good. We go back tomorrow ( plus we'll attend the support meeting ) and Thursday.

You're going to be a busy lady. What a great guy your "Cabana boy" is! Do you have to travel a long distance to TGH? It's about 132 kms which is aprox 82 miles. I am fortunate to be able to live within 2 1/2 hours of the hospital or else we would have had to move to Toronto. So many people we have met have had to give up their homes, family and friends to move there.

Just finished three weeks of traveling three days a week to TGH to exercise. Today I was back with my old gang at Courtice where I'll work out twice a week. It felt so good to be back "home"! So now on Monday's I'll travel to Toronto where I'll exercise and do any tests, blood work, PFTs etc, Tuesdays and Thursdays will be exercise at Courtice. I have noticed that I must be getting stronger due to the intensity of the exercise program I was put on as I can do 20 minutes on the treadmill with no difficulty plus when I did the Schwinn bike this morning, I was pedaling at .5 where before I could only manage a .3...so this is good. Mind you I'm pretty pooped when I'm finished, but it's a good pooped! Toni

Fabulous Toni...bet you never thought you'd be able to do some of this. Just think all that you'll be able to do 'post'. Question...whenever I go down to TGH, it's costing us $25 to park. We would never be able to afford $75/week. Is there a trick to this or discount? Also, wanted to ask you, have you already been listed and have you been given any idea of time frame?

Shelley, we park in the MARS underground parking which is right beside the Elizabeth St entrance. It's a bit cheaper at $18 a day. If you're lucky enough to find a spot to park on the street and you have a handicap sticker, then it's free. We've not been lucky enough to find one though.
Secondly, yes I was listed on Oct 7 and no, I haven't been given any timeframe. Some folks there have been on the list for over two years! All depends on the donor lungs, your bloodtype, size etc.
