susanny, My question would be, why do we have to wait?. They have been putting stents in for heart diseases for sometime now. They are still having problems with both types that they use,but they are still using them I think it was more than 1 year ago maybe more that they said they were doing more than 1 million procedures a year in the US alone. My son has gone in to day to have his heart checked,he has 2 stent, which were put in after his heart attack at the end of last year. He may nead another one. To me what is the difference in what they are doing for him and a trial?,remember this is after more than 1 million +use up to date. How long will it be before they are doing 1 million procedures for lung stents?. Heart disease is the number one killer today,at the moment and they do what they can, even if it could be 50/50 chance. Is there that same problem with Emphysema ?no. Yes they may say it could be a 50/50 chance the stents could WORK for you,but it wont be a live or die situation. Perhaps they think that because Emphysema is not life threatening, time is on our side. I wonder what would happen if they said it, face to face to someone who has Emphysema?. Got that off my chest, but my breathing is still the same,

I so know exactly what you are saying/feeling. I hadn't thought in terms of the live or die situation. Weren't you looking into getting into one of the coil or valves type studies, Zar? I'm guessing you haven't done it, is it still a possibility?
I hope your son does well today. They are always our 'babies', even when they're all grown up, aren't they?

susanny, After living in RSA for many years, and where we have a saying: Dont put of till tomorrow what you can do today. Being a person who has spent most of his working life as a trouble-shooter,not giving up,and by the persuit of many avenues in my search for answers to solve many problems. I can asure you that I have not given up my persuit of getting into a trial for COPD (never will )or to try to post as much information that I find. Because as for you,me and many others,to know that there is something being done about finding new treatments for COPD,that gives us all hope. But we do have another saying in RSA: Nog en Dag Tomorrow is another day. I went as I said I would to my GP,and asked her if she would help me to get into the coils trial. I told her that instead of living waitting to die,I would like to do something usefull with my life. It my not benifit my life or people of my age,but maybe it could help science in the answer to COPD. She told me that because it was me she would do it,anyone else she would have to think twice(we get on quite well ). But of course she like all the doctors here, her hands, are tied by the NHS (money). She said she would send a letter later in the week(last week). So its out of my hands now. I dont want to sound ungratefull, but I hope the correspondence between her and the doctors doing the trial do not become a Nog en Dag situation.
As for my son (thanks for asking)they could not find anything wrong that would be giving him pain and dont want to put another stent yet?. Doctor want to change some of his medication and see him in a few weeks.
