My uncle has copd & needs to stop smoking and doesn't seem to have the ablity or desire to do so. I thought that maybe a whole lot of us asking a power greater than him to help would be bennnificial for the cause .I can use all the help I can get in this aera Because I know that I am powerless over him. I have seen the power of prayer work many times before ,even when people don't want to change. I'm a classic example Thanks & Take care all

Hi spencer,
I will be glad to add your uncle and you to my prayer list. You are so right Prayer changes things. You didn't say how old your uncle was. My mom was 75 when she found out and she wouldn't give up the cigerattes for anything. Sometimes I found in working with her the less I said about them the less she smoked. I pray he doesn't smoke wearing o2 I can tell you from first hand experience that is not the way to go.
Good luck, Morningstar - Rosemarie

Thanks for the support Morningstar . He is 72 years old not on o2 and could have a good 10 to 15 years left if he quits. I may sound a little selfish but he's been like a father to me for many years And being 58 my self with copd ( quit smoking 10 mos ago ) Iwould like to spend a little more time with him here on this earth .God willing .Lets see what God has to say about it ! take care

Spencer,
Wanting him around a few more years is not being selfish. I think it is great you have a uncle to feel that way about. I had a total of 10 uncles from both sides of my family. And sorry to say booze and cigerattes took them all. Good job on your not smoking for 10 months, just a year for me the 3rd of this month.
But, God will be working with your uncle and with you.
God Bless,

Spencer - You can add my prayers to the others. Congrat's to you and Rosemarie for quitting smoking - It's almost been 2 years for me. There are still times I crave a cigarette, but not often. I sure hope your uncle will be with you for many years to come.

Hi Spencer
When they first told me that I had Copd and that I needed to quit smoking which I had been told to do everytime I had ever been to a doctor for years, my first thought was WHY, too late now, whats the use.
I was given lots of meds and was told that they would work better if I quit smoking. Again I thought, Oh sure, just another one of their ploys to get me to quit. I would even take two puffs of an inhaler so I could have a cigarette without chocking and caughing my head off, but no one was going to tell me what to do. The more people told me to quit the more I was determined to NOT quit.
Then one day, almost a year ago, I got so sick that I wound up in the er and then a rehab hospital for two weeks. Gasping for air was a real awaking exerience for me and from the time I was admitted to the er, April 12. 2006, I have not smoked.
I don't know what happened, but I have not even really had a desire or craving for a cigarette. I just stopped cold turkey as they call it.
I know my family was terrified and was not in any way ready to let me go, so they went to the chapel and said prayers for me and it sure must of worked as I am still here and smoke free coming up on a year.
Prayer does work and I will ask for Gods will be done for your uncle and your family. Keep the faith and just know what is suppose to happen will happen.
God be with you and your family Hugs and love to all of you Betty
