Welcome Cynde...
You have now entered/joined a LARGE family and beyond the caring and sharing; they have a LOT of combined knowledge and "living with COPD" info to share..... and even learn from you.
I do hope that you'll join in when you're ready and when you're comfortable. You'll find the water very warm.... I guarantee it!

Thanks all for the welcomes. I'm new to this and it came as a surprise to me. I've been asthmatic since I was 2, at times severe, so the COPD symptoms weren't obvious. My GP "just wanted to be sure" I'm 55 this year and quit smoking 27 years ago. Hubby quit smoking in the house a few years later, and finally quit 12 years ago, For asthma I was using pulmacort and ventolin which were only barely controlling it. I'm using Advent now after trying Advair and Symbacort. I have an allergy to lactose and those 2 caused a lot of other probs. I've snooped around in here a bit but haven't yet found out if there is a place where I can read about other members. Is there such a spot?
Thanks, I look forward to be being a member of this community

cynde, where you see our names lit in blue, for example at the bottom of the home page where it shows who's been online, just click on the name and it'll bring up their profile. Anywhere you see a name in blue you can click on, unless they are the actual topic of the thread.
It's not unusual for asthmatics to become COPDers. Some even have it as a component of their disease. The one drug that is directly targeted at COPD is Spiriva, a once daily inhaler. I was unable to take Advair, too, as it made me more short of breath (SOB). I was then switched to nebulizing Pulmicort and Brovana instead, which help somewhat, but are better than nothing. And of course I have a rescue inhaler, Proventil HFC.
How well do you think your symptoms are controlled with what you are using now? Do you know your PFT's FEV1 numbers?
Welcome again, and see ya around! Friday's are called Funny Friday and it's where we all posts jokes all day at the Fence thread. Come for a laugh and if you find a good one yourself, post it!
