I don't know if you remember me mentioning my husband's uncle. He is waiting for a double lung transplant. Toronto General Hospital called tonight and they are going to do the surgery tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. He is skin and bones, so I hope he is strong enough. He wasn't getting enough oxygen to his brain which was causing him to act out of character. Yelling and screaming and being afraid of everyday activities (such as sitting in a chair in the shower - this would frighten him). The caregivers which came to his home a few times per week talked him into going to pallative care. He was there one night and called his wife to take him back home. He didn't like it - said the nurses wouldn't let him do anything. Anyway, we here are hoping all goes well and he comes through the surgery with flying colours.

Thank you for all the prayers and thoughts. It is much appreciated. It's 9:40 a.m. here now, so I guess his surgery is just getting started. Ellen - he's located right in the middle of Orangeville and Brampton. I'll pass on any news as we receive it. Thank you again.

Well, I just got an update. They took Ken into the operating room at 10:00 a.m. this morning. When they got him on the table, they decided that the lungs were not suitable for him. Understandably he is very upset and we think he has just hit rock bottom and is probably giving up. I'll keep you updated. Thanks again for all the prayers and good thoughts.

Cheryl, I am so sorry. What a blow that must have been. Tell him not to give up there are a lot of people pulling for him. I can of imagine what he must feel how do they get someone that far and decide the lungs aren't right. I am sorry but the first thing I think of is that someone they felt was more important came in and those lungs matched them so Uncle Ken got shifted back and someone else got those lungs. Grrrrrrrrrr that makes me so angry. Hang in there we are here. Thoughts and prayers for all of you. Rose

We just heard that the Hospital kept Ken and has said that there is another Lung (I'm not sure if it is just one that they have available) coming in tonight. When it comes in they will take him to surgery again. I sure hope that they don't do the same thing and get him in there and then tell him it's not suitable. Surely they can't make that mistake twice. That would be just terrible for his spirit. Thanks again for all the support. -- I'll keep the updates coming.

An update I just heard - good news. Ken was taken into surgery at 10:00 p.m. last night. He had the double lung transplant and he came through it with flying colours. The surgery ended just after 9:00 a.m. this morning. He is presently in ICU. They have to monitor him to make sure he doesn't reject the new lungs. BTW - The first set of lungs were not suitable because they ended up having pneumonia. Apparently the surgeon noticed this in the operating room. I'm on my way out the door - have lots to do today, but thought I'd let you in on the good news. Thank you so so much for all the support and prayers. I really believe those helped. Talk to you soon.

I heard that they are going to slowly wake Ken up today. I didn't realize that they keep you unconcious for a little while after the operation.
