Many of you may already know this, but I didn't until just recently.........so I thought I would share it. I am on my third round of antibiotics for a respiratory infection that just doesn't seem to go away. When I saw my Pharmacist this week for a third round of antibiotics......he explained that vitamin/mineral supplements, various food supplements and certain herbal tea preparations interfered with the effectiveness of antibiotics. He suggested that it would be advisable to stay away from those things, while taking the antibiotics and just eat regular meals prepared with natural foods. everyone. It's very sunny today, in Calgary, Alberta.

Actually when I picked up my last prescription of antis my pharmacist told me about this. I wasn't to take vitamin supplements, calcium and she also suggested not to eat or drink any dairy products 1 hour before and after I took it because it would not work as well if I did. Bit of a pain cause I had to wait for my morning tea but when you are feeling crappy you do as you are told.........

Thank YOu Izzie, for letting us know this, I for one did not know to stay away from vitamins/calcium/ and such, I did know about milk and dairy though. It's good to be reminded from time to time to check on things that will interfere with the meds we take.

chrocary..........my pharmacist said the same thing about dairy products, but I forgot to mention it in my first post, so thank you for raising that issue.
Dairy products are so saturated with food additives and preservatives these days that a lot of the nutritional additives are also in our vitamin/mineral supplements. If I am lucky enough to get fresh cow's milk that is pasteurized.........I find that I can easily digest it, even though I am lactose intolerant. Yet, there is no way I can digest the milk with all the nutritional additives and preservatives.
Some yogurts contain inulin, which has some health benefits and some very negative health benefits.....one of them being that it is not easily digested in the upper intestine, but can be digested by the lower intestine and may cause bad bacteria to grow and cause a kidney infection. Workers who are employed in the production industry of inulin...also have a high incidence of breathing problems and respiratory problems......which goes to show you that if you can't digest it easily, it probably isn't all that good for your lung health as well.
