September 14, 1741 German composer George Frederick Handel, 56, finished composing his oratorio, "The Messiah." He wrote the score, start-to-finish, in only 24 days, subsisting primarily on coffee.

My family comes from Prince Edward Island and our family has strong musical roots, unfortunately it has skipped a generation as neither myself or my siblings can play any musical instruments but my paternal grandfather and his siblings were very musical, they were all skilled at multiple instruments. My grandfather wrote the song "Blind Boy's Prayer" which was given to and recorded by Billy McCormick and then Wilf Carter, and my great Uncle was a guest on Don Messer's Jubilee television show, and the others were all very musical inclined.
As for myself I love listening to everything from Mozart to Metallica... the only stuff I don't listen to is Rap, I can't stand the lyrics... they are disgusting! As a young kid, by the age of ten or twelve when all the other kids were listening to top 40 songs I was listening to George Jones, Johnny Cash, Conway Twitty, Patsy Cline, Don Williams and John Conlee ... just to name a few!
I also consider myself a bit of a movie buff , most of my favorites are from the 50's ... but the more recent favorites are influenced by the soundtrack... movies like Smokey and the Bandit, The Blues Brothers. Crossroads, and Brother where are thou.

Well Gary, you will fit right in... My dad played everything as well.. he would pick up anything and play by ear. He was a very smart man!! I wish I was able to get to know him longer. I play my harp, when I feel I have some breath in me. Not very much lately. As I can't seem to bring in the air I want too. It's so upsetting. I get so depressed that so many things I used to do I now can't.
I love everything , except like you said and I don't care for heavy metal. I love all the rest .

Yes sir, that is the one! I think Wilf Carter (aka Montana Slim) did a better rendition of the song!

The rumor is that old "Smiling Bill" is still alive back in Ontario, he has to be getting up there in years now.
