My son is home for the holidays from Arm Forces and told us about one of his infield training sessions. For a short training session, his team had a dress up in full winter battle gear, walk into the bush, find a side of the hill and "dig in". Each had to dig their own deep hole and live in their hole for 3 full days. Yes, eat, sleep and stay calm within the hole. They also had to regulate their own body temps and keep themselves dry / clean. Especially when they used a large pumper that sprayed water on the hillside (while they were in their fox holes) - to create real freezing wet rain condition. My son survived in the top 10% of his team. A few got minor frost bite and a girl got 2nd degree buns - from putting too many heat packs (only to be used for self emergency) directly against her skin. Ouch! And one guy mentally over stressed out and was removed from the test. My son explained that this infield test was only for short 3 days. Just imagine the overseas Arm Forces teams who do that environment exposer for several consecutive weeks at a time - while bullets flying above their head? Yes. Definite new respect for our infield troops....

But, spike99, as a parent you must have a strong sense that you've done lots of things right. It's taken me years to allow myself to take some credit for many of my son's accomplishments.

Spike, kudos to your son, it takes a strong person (mental and physical) to do that. I know there are some survival courses that offer a similar thing (minus the pumper) and you have to pay for it. Liz was looking into wilderness survival in her late teens and early 20s. Life got in the way Your son sounds like an awesome young man.
