OK....I need an APPROX guess what somebody could suggest my friend's PFT results FEV.1 could be....Just a ballpark guess without going thru all the other numbers....... I came up around 20% but most prob between 18% - 15%.......She had her last one 5 years ago which was 70%......I would like to see how close my own understanding in interpreting it is.. You might need to be on firefox or some browser to magnify image if needed......Many Thanks....

Ozbody in reading the notes I would say she is down 18 to 15 % from her last test so that would put her in the mid 50's % capacity

Dear Ozboy - This is my best guess although the data is presented in a different way than my doctor. Normally the pre and post numbers refer to testing before and after bronchodilator (MDI) use. Your friends predicted FEV1 is 2.47 Liters. (That would be 100% baseline for her age, weight, sex) Her test on 9/5/ had a 2.13 Liters result. (That is 86.2% of predicted - which is 2.47 Liters) Her test on 21/3/ had a 2.35 Liters result. (That is a 95.1% of predicted - which is 2.47 Liters) The difference between the two FEV1 results is a decrease of 9.36% in my calculations. Does she have breathing problems? These numbers look very good.

So even though treated in hospital for Bronchiecstasis it isn't restrictive yet...The problem was Pleuritis......That was the confusion as to why she had so much lung issues......So the Fev.1 around the 50 plus mark is correct....
FV1/FVC 84% , 92% , 88 % ...The last 2 columns show a Fev1 greater than 80%.. Just by the information given and Based on the Gold standard all the figures show no signs of COPD because the FEV1 has to be 80% or lower and FEV1/FVC has to be 70% or lower. Although the one number FVC of 79% may show some very small amount of restriction the kick off starts at 79% or less for restrictive diseases.
Thanks guys.....
Jarca there is down the bottom.....When I spoke to her today it appears her Pulmo is not very co-operative.. QUOTE ''My pulmo is really hard to nail down. I asked him how long before i'd be severely affected. He didn't want to say but eventually said 80. So long as we do regular tune ups etc.''
