My mom has copd which didn't cause the stroke. She had a respiratory infections, which caused the copd to flare up. During that her effects from the stroke got worse and she has not improved. She had a cerebellar ischaemic stroke. Why did the stroke effects get worse? She had some improvement from her stoke before the infection. Her infection is gone. Thank you in advance.

I am sorry to hear about your mom. If i remember right, your mom had a stroke some time back, but you weren't sure if it was a stroke?? Has she just had another? I did look up & find that COPD does increase chances of a person having a stroke, but if you can find a support group that deals with strokes you might get more information than you will here. I did find this information that talks about how a COPD exacerbation inflammation can increase the risk of stroke. it's late & i didn't read this link well, but it might lead you to some answers; www.medscape.com/viewarticle/723252 "Conclusion: The results suggest that exacerbations of COPD increase the risk of MI and stroke. This may have implications for therapy in both stable and exacerbated COPD." I hope this might lead you to some answers you seek.

D#mm this COPD, I am so sorry to hear about your mothers problems. It hurts me when I hear COPD has caused a problem. I'm not aware of this type of stroke. I hope for the best outcome.

Just an update. We may have found out why the after effects of her stroke was getting worse. We are hopping for pneumonia. I know that sounds strange. She had an X-ray done & we know the results. Doctor put her on Antibiotics, I think she is a slight bit better tonight but I am not getting my hopes up yet. She has a cat scan scheduled for 4-10-2017 and by Wednesday(4-12-2017) we should know if it is pneumonia. I will try to keep you updated on what it is.

Jarca & others I did an update above. Sorry, I wasn't clear. Yes, she did have stroke in October 2016 but it wasn't a typical stroke. The onset was dizziness, nausea, vomiting and lose of balance. After, the onset, she still has trouble with dizziness & her balance & weakness. She didn't lose her thinking ability. She wasn't progressing so the doctor order more home therapy (March 2017) & she started to improve. Then boom her dizziness, balance & weakness got worse all of sudden. As I said above, we are hopping it is pneumonia. Just for information she does have COPD. That has been diagnosed by her rheumatologist. P.S. Thank you all for your kind words.

Update 2. This is going to be a sad report. We still don't know a lot of things but it is not looking to good. Here is partial copy of Cat scan report below. It is looking like Cancer & some other issues. We don't know the stage or if it is benign. Most likely it is not. She will need more testings.

Update 3 It is looking like lung cancer but the primary doctor can't really say. She has been refereed to a lung doctor for PET scan. All the primary care doctor said is it is aggressive. Not a good sign. We don't know what stage or if it is treatable she has other medical issues that complicate things. One thing I didn't say earlier, my mom brother has stage 4 lung cancer, he just found this out recently. He has more of a chance because its not on the outside of the lung.

Update 4 Sorry to be so late with another update. Its been crazy here. My mom had another stroke it made her left peripheral vision not able to see correctly). She is still able to think coherently which I am thankful for. I think she was sent home too soon but that is another matter. Now, she has the flu. I am a little worried that she should be in the hospital instead of at home. The Home healthcare nurse said the er or urgent care couldn't do anything. However, I read people die from the flu. I had read they have prescription but don't know if they really work. I also read people with stage 4 lung cancer can get sick easier. She is not drinking enough fluids. If I can get her out, she does see the doctor on 05/09/2017. What is the criteria for traditional Medicare to admit someone with the flu? We still don't know what stage the cancer is.

Can you call her doctor asap and get her in the hospital now? I have 2 health insurance, one being medicare and another one for what medicare does not pick up. But I think you're mom has to have some Ex-rays done in order to take a look at her chest. You can get pneumonia very fast, especially if she is not moving around and not taking in liquids..please call 911 or you're doctor right away this doesnt sound good. My prayers are with you both!
