Hi Everyone, My name is Phil and I am a 58 year old male, living in Lower Sackville Nova Scotia. I have a wonderful wife of 33 years, Pat, 2 grown daughters, Shawna and Sheri and a grown son, Phil. I also have an 80 pound lap-dog named Copper. Right now my FEV1 is at 10% and my DLCO is at 19%. I still expect to be around for a while yet, obviously, as I started this forum. My life pretty well revolves around the TV and the computer, but I am happy here in my own little world! Phil

Hi All
My name is Betty and I live in Las Vegas, NV. I have three grown daughters and one 18 year old granddaughter. I have been married for almost 50 years. My husband and I are both retired and are on SS.
I was officially dx with copd Sept 2004 but I know I have had it for alot longer than that. Just wouldn't go to dr to get it checked out until after I retired from work and got on SS and medicare.
My fev1 is below 20% now. Was a little higher until I had a nodual removed from the middle lobe of right lung in Dec.
Thank you Phil for starting this forum. I have enjoyed reading the many posts you have done on how to breath and how to breath and eat at the same time.

Hi All -- My name is Vic and I live on Long Island, NY...I was Dx'd with COPD in 1997. I'm 72 years old and I'm married to Rita for the last 53 years. I was 24% when dx'd, stopped smoking immediately that same day...1 year later I was 33%.
In June of 2002, I started using Spiriva, which I obtained from the Netherlands with a script from my PCP(bless him). With 8 months of Spiriva usage, my fev1 climbed to 44% and I was able to discontinue O2 (needed it for sleeping only)...I was lucky in that Spiriva worked for me on the very first puff and the difference over Atrovent was unreal. Spiriva was my big benefactor. This June I will have COPD 10 years and I am now at 34% fev1...not bad after 10 years and 24% at the start.

Hi Everyone --- My name is Cheryl. I live in Toronto, Ontario. I'm married with 2 grown children, Lisa and Jeffrey. I was diagnosed with bullous emphysema when my lung collapsed in May 2005. A second collapse in September '06 resulted in a lobectomy. The thorasic surgeon cut a few wedges out of my lung and roughed my lung up so it would stay up. I don't know what my stats are, even though I've been through all the tests. I really hate the stairs - - A Canadian COPD site - I'm tickled pink. Thanks Phil

Looks like we got "off track" with 2 threads going . No biggie; the more the merrier..just copy and paste. Hi I'm Blossom....aka Jackie NS, or vise versa I have severe COPD...not on oxygen yet and I'm a firm believer and promoter of EXERCISE. I live in Nova Scotia; have 2 kids & 4 grandkids all living in Georigia. Also have a GREAT BH (Dave) and a walking partner (dog)...Buddy. On World COPD Day Nov/06 I started Canada's 1st dedicated COPD website www.copdcanada.ca offering HOPE, INFORMATION & SUPPORT to the newly diagnosed. Phil was/is a BIG contributor to some of the info for those of us suffering with COPD.

Hi, I am Wendy from Saskatchewan. Diagnosed three years ago, quit smoking three years ago, 59% fev1, no real symptoms except mentally. Hard disease to come to terms with and even harder to stay smoke free, which I have. I am married with two grown children, work full time plus and enjoy reading and watching tons of tv and movies.

Hi my name is Ellen and I live just outside Toronto, Ontario. I am with a wonderful man now for 10 years, I have two grown daughters, two great son-in-laws and 3 adorable Grandsons, and a great Cat named Spot. I am now on Canada Disability Pension as I was diagnosed with severe Copd last year. I have about 29% lung function ( I am not sure if that is what fev1 is). I am not on oxygen, I have completed the Breatheworks Clinic and was going to maintenance program. I had a cat scan the end of March and my specialist says I am a good candidate for either the balloons or LVRS. I have been waiting since April 9 to get an appointment booked in Toronto for an assessment..

Welcome When I phoned the receptionist at my respirologist's office two weeks after she was to fax the papers to Toronto, she advised me that my chart was still on her desk and that as soon as she heard something she would let me know, that it would take quite a while. This is just to book an appointment, who knows how long it will take to get an appointment. I am feeling a little frustrated...

Cocojax I can see how you would be frustrated. I don't understand why just making the appointment would take this long. The receptionist at the specialists office must have an appointment book she uses. If you know the name of the specialist, would it be possible for you to call them directly?
