. I'm age 43 and a male. Been smoking since age 12 and currently 45-50 lbs over weight. Years of winter storage that never went away. LOL!!! During summer and fall of 2006, I was having too many health problems. Heat stroke in simple 80 F weather, couldn't cut the grass as long as I used to, was always physically tired but couldn't sleep good at night and when I got a sinus cold, it always turned into walking pnemonia. I also had daily chest (lung) pain and pain in my lower throat. Visualize of an old WWI double wing plane on fire, heading downward into the trees. At times, that's how my body felt - most of the time. OUCH!!! After 3 visits to my doctors "every month" for 3 consecutive months, it finally sunk into my thick skull. (ya, thick skull male thing). My many years of smoking 1-1.5 packs a day was pulling me into an early grave. Sad to say but true. To make a long story short, I butted out on Dec 4, 2006. Been smoke free ever since. I now do daily physical exercises (weather permitting), eat much better diet, play more often with my 3 kids and actually enjoy being a non-smoker. If wondering, I do NOT have COPD. Don't even know if I have early medical signs of "E". But I can tell you that since I "butted out", my body is starting to feel much better. It's slowly working its way up to a WWII Mustang fighter. Perhaps one day, my body will reach my new goal of F-16 jet fighter but for now, being between an Olympic athlete and 6 ft under the ground "does feels great". Feels much better compared to last fall, when my body was in a downward spin.
Not too sure if I can help with any COPD questions on this forum but I'm hoping to provide info on better eating, better physical exercise and most of all, how to stop smoking. How to "butt out" - like I did.

Hi Spike, I'm Cheryl, 49 years old and have Emphysema - I'm so glad that you quit smoking and are feeling much better. I wish I had your motivation when it came to the exercise part. I know we're all supposed to exercise but I'm just so lazy - I know I'm not doing myself any good. Hopefully reading more stories like yours will get me moving. I look forward to getting to know you. Welcome!
