:)Hey Everyone. Thanks for the very nice welcome. I've been visiting you site regularly for awhile now and decided it was time to join. I live in California, in the foothills, with my family. I've been diagnosed with severe copd for about 5 years now which ended my career as a nurse. I'm on O2 continously via a TTO which has been great for me. I stay pretty active except for the past couple of weeks when I got sidelined by some sort of virus and then a secondary infection. So currently, I'm taking it easy and being grateful for the internet and a laptop. Thanks again for the welcome and take care.

I don't know how long you've had the TTO; but one of our ocassional posters here and a friend, WendyCo also went the TTO route just this past year. As far as I know; they don't do/don't offer it here in Canada as an option.
Healthwise it's been a bumpy winter for many folks so just take it easy and get your strength back!

I just checked with John Goodman of TransTracheal Systems ( www.tto2.com ) about TTO in Canada. There is nothing banned about it but there are very few (probably none) doctors recommending it to their patients. A few are done but these are likely either at the pushing of a knowledgeable patient, or by one of the few respirologists who trained or practiced in the US and met it there. However at one time (maybe ten years back???) Medigas here in Canada, had several of their RT's trained and TTO became, for a little while, somewhat more common.

So I wonder why it's not something they don't do now...

Yesterday I was giving a talk on COPD to a small group in a Wellness program at the local Independant Living/Disability Resource Center and in passing mentioned O2 via a tiny catheter in the neck, and one of the attendees up (not with COPD) and said "Oh! You mean transtracheal" Really surprised me.

Hi Everyone, I really don't understand why the TTO is not done more often. I had mine done 3.5 years ago and it has been such a positve experience for me. It has improved my quality of life. I had mine done at a University Hospital. My local pulmonologist and hospital do not do them. On a more personal note, our youngest daughter is getting married tomorrow so there is lots going on today. Can't believe that I'm the mother of the Bride. So take care everyone and I'll be back after the wedding.
