I got a call today from Hugahusky.... I have to say when she first told me she was going into a Rest Home; I felt down (just me) ...intiailly BUT; then when I thought of it while we were talking, and in the long run, I'm actually happy for her! Hugs (Susan) owns her own home and lives alone as you know and she's been struggling for a bit "physically" and "psychologically" and this decision didn't come lightly.... She's visited her "new to be" home a couple of times and got a good feel on both ocassions. Tomorrow she sort of "tests drives" the place till Thursday when she has to be back in the city for a Dr's appt. We'll touch base hopefully again thereafter. So.... love, hugs and prayers going out to you Sue and we look forward to hearing a bit more about your "new" adventure! On a final note...... Juanita; if/when you read this....... Thank you as well for being such a good friend to our Sue. The world should have more people like you in it.

Hugahusky,
It can be a very tough decision to make and how brave of you to take a step in a different direction! A friend of mine just made this same decision, she spent a week "test driving" and checking it out and is now loving it, six months later.
My thoughts are with you and I hope you "love it" just as much as my friend Elizabeth! Enjoy the rest and allow them to cater to you.
All the very best..........Jane

I think it is great that they let you test the waters first. It may end up being a good thing at this time, or a later time. At least you will know. Take the time to think and maybe write down the pro and cons to see them on paper and go from there.

Bravo for you! I feel you are making the right decision at the right time. The unnecessary stress you now have from living alone and having to cope with all the problems of home-ownership will all be in the past. And the isolation of living on one's own is often worse (and exacerbates other negatives) than the health problems and aging issues that we are all going through. What was once good at a certain point in our lives if often not the best situation now. It takes a wise woman to realize this and act on it. I downsized 4 years ago and have never looked back once. The initial cleaning/packing was tiresome but gave me such a sense of relief and freedom when it was accomplished. God bless you, dear, and good luck.

Hugs to Susan! I have been so worried about your living on your own that this is a decision that can just make perfect sense out of everything. I hope you enjoy your test drive (didn't know places let you do this) and get a good roommate. Or will you have a private room? I will be praying for you on this matter as well as your health. I also want to thank Juanita for being such a good friend to you. There aren't many people in the world like her, should be many more. God bless you!

, Thank you all so much for your encouragement and best wishes. I will check in on the site from time to time as at the moment I don't know about internet at "The Elms". However, on the weekend when I am at home again I will give you an update. That is, if I ever get there this week, as we are having a storm today and when I spoke with the administrator this morning, there is about 6 inches of solid ice on the roads and the wind and blowing snow has the visibility at zero. By the way, I am moving back to the Annapolis Valley where I am originally from. I posted a few pictures in the gallery a while back that showed the church at Grand Pre, where I will be living is only a 10 minute drive from there. Bye for now.

I remember those pictures and how serene it looked there. Lots of apples in the Valley right? or am I mistaken?
