John; I've added a bit to your subject matter rather than starting another thread. This one's for a pill... BTW; I think that blood test would help a LOT of people John; and a lot less expensively then scans once (and if) it gets put into practise. There was also an piece in the local paper this morning for a new type of pill that they've been testing that "may" work for certain types of cancer. They test a person's genes for it Interesting enough; this chap (Drew Bethune) is my thoracic oncologist. The "type" of lung cancer isn't mentioned (I have a feeling that it's one of the fater growth types) [i ]Extracted from the article...... The test identifies whether patients have a particular gene mutation. If they do, the treatment — a pill taken once or twice a day — can send the cancer into remission and prolong the patient’s life. And that little pill gets results fast, said the centre’s administrative co-ordinator, Dr. Drew Bethune, also head of the thoracic surgery division at Dalhousie University’s medical school. “The response of the cancer is very rapid,” Bethune said. “It can shrink significantly within a couple of weeks of taking the pill.” Unlike chemotherapy, which kills all dividing cells, the treatment works by specifically targeting cancer cells and “turning off” the mechanism that causes them to grow, he said. The pill also causes only minimal side-effects, such as skin rashes. But it doesn’t work for everyone."[/i] Read the full article here.... thechronicleherald.ca/novascotia/1160747-tests-offer-hope-in-lung-cancer-fightI've not heard from him but I'm tempted to contacted him about it....
