Hi don't know if Im jumping the gun, but I may be joining your forum. If my diagnosis is positive, I am going to have a lot of questions.I recently quit smoking 4 months ago after 8 years. I was not a heavy smoker at all maybe a pack in 4days. Immediately after I quit I got walking pneumonia and right after that lung irritation due to viral irritation. I worked hard and steady through both. Beginning this week I developed what I thought was a cold. This time I got floored. By mid week I was a bit short of breath but completely exhausted. I slept almost a whole day away. Today I went to emerg the Dr Xrayed my chest and did bloodwork, (which came back neg). The Xrays caused him some concern and he wants me tested for COPD. Before anyone yells at me for smoking, I want to say I dont think its all due to the smoking. All my life I have been exposed to inhaled crap, (for lack of a better word). Ok jabbered on too much now will let you know whats what. May still ask advice about selfcare even if its not COPD. I think things finally caught up w me.

Jwood If you have Emphysema they should be able to tell with an x-ray. 30 years ago when I was 32 years old they took an x-ray and showed me a tiny spot on my lungs and said that was the beginning of Emphysema. That was in 1983. It took 20 more years for me to notice anything and I have been on disability now for 10 years. I started getting short of breath in 2003. I am 62 yr old now.

Wow appreciate support gang. Im a little shook. Will b aranging to see doctor today to book tests. Xrays previously show no spots, just shadows. Dr at emerg was serious and noticed some restriction. If it is positive for COPD will have to sit down and make some decisions. Ontario is not anyplace to b ill or to become seriously ill. Believe me I already deal with government on that. Anybody know if relocating west would help breathing wise?
