ORLANDO, Fla. — A University of Central Florida student was told she wouldn’t live to see her 18th birthday, but after two life-saving surgeries, she’ll be able to spend Thanksgiving with her family.
Jordan McCaskill, 20, spoke out about her recovery from a second double lung transplant surgery. She suffers from cystic fibrosis, a disease that causes lung infections.
McCaskill had to undergo a second lung transplant after her body rejected the first pair.
She said she’s thankful for her doctors and donors.
“I’m just very grateful for being here and having so many chances to live the life I wanted for myself,” she said. McCaskill sought treatment at Florida Hospital, where specialist doctors lobbied for her to receive another lung transplant.
McCaskill still has a long recovery ahead, but said she looks forward to going back to school and sleeping in her own bed.

I wish I could keep up with her progress. Most times this happens and we never hear anything else.
