I ran across this link. It does a nice comparison of air purifiers including square footage, prices etc. It also allows a different selections related to specific requirements. While I am sure it misses a lot of brands / models, it beats having to hunt down all of the information from the start. -------------------------- Best Air Purifier 2016: 10 Best Air PurifiersHere are the 10 best air purifiers we have identified from our extensive research. Getting the best air purifier can make a big difference in your health. They can help you feel better, especially if you suffer from asthma or allergies. But there are over a dozen air purifier manufacturers and hundreds of air purifiers on the market. How do you choose the right one for you? After careful research, I have compiled this list of top air purifiers from more than 100 air purifier reviews. On this list I have included several ionizers but no ozone producing air purifiers which have raised environmental and health concerns. www.cleanairmom.com/best-air-purifiers/

Thanks for this, Gerald. I use a Whirlpool purifier (no ozone, etc). I am diligent about changing the filters and can't believe how much stuff it catches. When I had air quality testing done in my home, the air was better inside than out - and Whitehorse evidently has the best air quality in the world (WHO).

From what I have read we should not use an air purifier with an ionizer because they can produce ozone and even when they do not the feature doesn't really do much anyhow, some of them have one as an optional feature so you don't have to use it. A true hepa filter is the best and if I remember correctly a Whirlpool like Deborah has is one of the best for COPD. I have a cheapo Holmes, it works pretty well but don't get one, its expensive to replace filters frequently and the machines don't last 5 years as claimed.

Deborah, What particular model of Whirlpool do you have? I notice that there are several different ones

It's a "whispure", either model Ap5030K or Ap51030K. It uses a HEPA filter system. I bought it at Canadian Tire. It's a big beast but light, and it works really well. It has a timer and a sleep setting, and can sense air quality in order to determine how hard it has to work. It has a reminder system for the two different filters: one type gets changed every three months; the other gets changed every year.
I like it a lot. It sits in a pocket behind my couch and works away with no complaints, unlike the lump who usually lays on the couch. (Me - or my husband.)
Hope this helps. Great conversation.
