I have been working out in my feild a lot this past week. I wait until it is cooler out, but lately it never gets very cool. When I come inside in the evenings my feet are swollen, but seem to be fine after a night of rest. My Dr. doesn't think this is anything to worry about due to the fact that the swelling goes down by morning. I have had an echocardiogram last year & my was told my heart looks fine & no signs of PH. I am not as active in the winter, I have my treadmill & do keep active, but I have never had problems with my feet swelling (and this is the first summer that this is happening) I don't know if this is a new thing happening or if it is just because of the heat Does anyone else have this problem of swelling when on your feet a lot, but having it go down after rest?
Any ideas what causes it? Anything you do besides raising them to help them go down?

Hi jarca, I don't have this problem, but maybe one of the other members has and can talk with you about it. I remember one of our past members having feet swelling problems, but I can't recall the reason. Hope you are having a good day.

Water Retention is a fairly common problem. My understanding it can be a byproduct of high blood pressure. Not sure if it is the cause or the effect.
I get it if I do a lot of work, or walking or standing.
It is one of the reasons the sometimes prescribe duretics for the high blood pressure, to keep the water retention to a minimum. My doctor prescribed them for me. However, the loss of water started to cause my muscles to cramp which is a common side effect of dehydration. Rather than a duretic, you can top up on Vitamin B's which canl act as a duretic but in a less severe manner.

I have only one time had swollen feet and ankles from sitting in the car and driving many hours, and to most people they looked normal bc I have very skinny legs. But I also have high blood pressure and I take 75mg of meds a day for high blood pressure. Water retention is a big sign like Gerald said. He's very good with information. I hope you're ok, and it's most likely you're doing to much, drink plenty of fluids and also don't forget to rest ok.

I take a blood pressure medication also. I had no problem until a few years ago and then it went deadly high all of a sudden and it took quite months to get the amount of medication to work. Finally, I ended up with the highest dose of the medication he wanted me on and I have not had a problem with it going high for a long time now. My Dr gave me diuretics at that time & I had the same problem that Gerald had of getting dehydrated so I am kind of leary about taking them any more. I do have diuretics that I can take as needed, but to take one at night I don't think would be a good idea. Interesting suggestion about the B vitamins. I didn't know they would act like a diuretic....any certain "B" vitamin?
I searched the internet & it seems that it is normal for feet to swell at end of the day if on them a lot. I have been working outside in the heat a lot lately trying to get my feild irrigation risers working right before the next watering in a week or so. I try to make sure I drink plenty of water while out there. Perhaps I will try drinking gatorade while I am out there this evening and see if that helps. Thank you for your input.
ps. lavishgail you gave me a good laugh, as my kids say i have "birdlegs" so maybe the swollen ankles will keep them from kidding me so much

Vitamin B6 and B12 I believe are the ones that work best to eliminate water retention. Easiest just to take a B complex, whatever your body does not use will be flushed out so there is littel danger of any side effects. Yuo might need to try a couple of different brands if one does not work, I have found that the fillers they use in the supplements can affect your bodies ability to extract the supplements. authoritynutrition.com/6-ways-to-reduce-water-retention/

Haha Jarca, my nick name is chicken legs . Not too much now that I'm older , but now my family calls me bird instead haha..Oh well, my mom always points out my legs haha. I can wear bracelets for ankles . Too funny. So when mine swell even a little bit I really know it. I was very dehydrated while in the hospital, they had to give me many salt bags and fluids. My hands were so fats I kept looking at my hands and stomach. I asked the nurse's what the heck was wrong with me? And my cheeks? , I'm on such high doses of steroids right now, so that will also do a number. 60mg and tapering. Thank goodness. I'm too happy for my pants and hubby can't take it I guess. 😐 So He said I talk to much and drive him crazy..Oh well. Have a better night. Gail.
