all, i was wondering, anyone here that has copd, and on oxygen 24/7 that can't fall asleep without the aid of sleeping pills. When i was in the hospital 2015 with pnumonia , i was sent home with oxygen and a concentrator was set up in my home. I need it to move around. Since before that, i use to sleep anytime, and longer. Now, it is impossible. How can i get back to sleeping on my own, normally, or take a nap in the afternoon, with out the use of pills. Thanks for reading this, hope i am not the only one with this problem. Have a good day.

It took me a little while but I got use to sleeping with the oxygen. I only sleep with it at night. If I take a nap during the day I don't bother using the oxygen. It may not be good but that is what I do.
I am use to it being on my face now so it doesn't bother me when I do sleep with it. I have been on oxygen for 5 years.
I have always had a hard time going to sleep at night. My last visit my doctor gave me a script for Clonidine .1MG He said it was for my blood pressure but he also says it would help me go to sleep at night. I said Good, give it to me. It does help me to go to sleep. I already take Losartan 12.5 MG in the morning for blood pressure.

Peg, I have used Oxygen while sleeping for abit more than a year now. I use the oxygen straight without running it through water.
I sleep much better with the oxygen. I used to constantly wake up if my oxygen dropped to low.
I always have problems getting to sleep. What works best for me is two aspirins and an antihistimine (Diphenhydramine). It works most of the time. And the r est of the time thats what they invented computer games for!!

I'm on oxygen at night and as needed during the day. I take a zopiclone every night or I'd never sleep...I would go to sleep for an hour or two and then be wide awake....At my age I'm not going to lay awake all night..... .

David, i will talk to my doctor about that, i too am on high blood pressure pill, 7.5 Enalapril, will let you know, thanks. Barb, i do take zoplicone 7.5mg, it gets me to sleep, but only for 3-4 hours at best, so when i wake up i take another one. They don't seem to work during the day, if i want to have a nap, don't know why that is. I know they are addicting, but they have helped, but i would love to try something else more natural, and get a full night sleep, like 8-9 hours would be great. Thanks for listening

I know Peg....I am still up a couple of times in night as I have a dog that has Cushings disease....Makes him drink lots and pee lots.... ...I have no idea what it would be like to sleep a straight 7 or 8 hours.....Never have I been a good sleeper and can't sleep in the daytime at all...I don't do a lot as I lost my hubby a couple of years ago and sold my house and I'm in a seniors apt. Not to hard keeping it clean, so I do rest lots.

I have had problems sleeping long before COPD. I used to be able to take antihistimine (Diphenhydramine) before COPD, but now it dries me out too much. I don't know what zoplicone is but in USA I was given Ambien 1st (zolpidem tartrate), which got me to sleep, but didn't keep me asleep. Now days I take an anti-anxiety medication & the "slow release" "ambien/zolpidem" & I i still lay awake until 3am, but once i fall asleep I can get about 6 hours, but it is broken up sleep that i wake about every hour; so frustrating. I never have been able to fall asleep during the day unless i'm very sick. "Melatonin" is the sleep hormone in our bodies and it is sold without a prescription here. It didn't work for me, but it may be something more natural you could try? Has anyone found anything that DOES work for insomnia??? I'd love to sleep even the 6 hours without interruption, but 8 hours would be heaven!
gerald; playing games would wind my mind up even more!!! i resort to boring movies & tv programs as i found good movies i stay awake to see what happens :/
