Does anyone experience slurring their words when 02 drops? My Pulmonologist says that is "normal" but I never hear anyone else speak of having the problem. The weird thing is that I feel fine & I'm thinking okay, but my speaking becomes slurred. I'm not sure at what level my 02 when it happens, as it seems to just happen. If I turn up my 02 1LPM it will stop. It usually happens when I am just sitting & talking on the phone or sitting & talking to someone; not when i'm moving around (yes i talk so much i forget to breath i guess )

I am lucky that my saturation recovers rather quickly. I haven't noticed any slurring. But I have a heavy southern accent so I slur normally

Yes I have noticed that happens to me when my O2 is low, I notice I talk kind of funny anyways so nobody really notices hahahahaha and I have some sort of accent people think I'm from the south. But I think it's a little polish and a little Berkshires and when you put those two together it's quite the accent y'all know what I'm talking about

When my daughter Tansy was young, we could tell when she was starting an asthma attack, as she would be slurring her words. I don't think this has happened to me.

thank you for your replies. I was starting to think i was the only one People tell me I talk with an accent also, but i'm from California & i don't think i have an accent.....i'm also usually a "fast talker" but when this happens its like my speach slows down dramatically. Jim: i'm sorry you daughter has asthma, but you telling me that she slurred as a child is VERY interesting---i wonder if when i do it, it may be my lungs spasming or something....i'll have to try to see if i can relate it to something so maybe i can 'prevent' it. thankyou

I have not noticed this myself and none of my wardens have mentioned it and they are (it seems at times) simply waiting with eager anticipation for me to do something odd.
Not sure if a direct application is valid, but when I was required to be altitude qualified I was in chamber that recreated a PA of >10,000'. As part of the exercise we had to remove our oxygen masks. (This was so one not only noticed the effects on themselves, but also on others.) Slurring of speech was common, but not in the majority. In fact I took away two things. 1. You don't notice low oxygen in yourself until it starts to drop, and 2. Everyone reacts very differently. Many shared symptoms, but no two people ever showed all the same symptoms.
In subsequent almost identical situations neither I or others would necessarily repeat the same symptoms.
So based on this purely anecdotal evidence I can easy see how slurring of speech would be a valid symptom and could likely occur only intermittently.

Been wrapped in my own little series of misfortunate events. Tends to make one rather self-absorbed. <ha>
While only a month, feels like have been away a years or so.
Glad to see so many still here.
