Hi everyone. New to the group. I’ll start with an overview of my last 2 weeks. Diagnosed with mild COPD 5 years ago. 2 weeks ago I began to experience pain under my right rib cage that extended around to my back. Pain was liveable and I thought, ok. I’ve had this before, it will wear off eventually. A week in and pain is a little worse so went to the doc. X-rays were done and I was called back to his office. Hyper inflated lungs he says. Sent for an ECG and Pulmonary Function Test coming up on Monday. Anyhow, had a crappy night and got up this morning to severe pain. Meaning, I couldn’t even cough, bend over or do anything related to right side movement without being in excruciating pain. I took a Tylenol 3, nothing. An hour later I took another one. It’s taken the edge off but that’s about it. What do I do? Will this go away? I just know I surely can’t live with this kind of pain for the rest of my life. Help please!

Looks like you Pulmonary doctor is on the ball. It's good he will be running some test.
I have never had that problem where it last that long. My pain in the ribs are far and few.
I do take Tramadol for pain and it helps me breath in low doses.
You need to see a doctor for pain like you are having.

However, one thing we've learned from this COPD group is that we have some symptoms which, unfortunately, are unique to us. So we need to tiptoe lightly if something sounds familiar. It's important that you see your Dr. with your notepad of questions, symptoms, concerns. In some cases even the medical profession has to use trial and error (we get frustrated with this), but hopefully there's trust and things will get better. Plus there's non-communicative patients like me who are still learning to speak up.

Trish - did your primary doctor consider gallbladder disease?
