, i usually post on the COPD thread, but thought i would put this question here. In the last 3 days i was in the emergency room, didn't feel good, chest was tight, sensation also and up to my left head and face tingleing, they did all the tests and for heart as well, i was in good health. But they had me stay for another 4 hours to take the blood work again, and it was ok, and i felt better. We figured it was taking off and putting on the nasal cannala to much, to keep my oxygen now, as my concentrator would not go lower than 3/4. So i must have gone to low then to high. Anyways, went home and left the oxygen the way it was at 3/4 and put nasal cannala on and went to bed later. The next day which is yesterday , they came to my town to deliver me another concentrator that goes lower, and i was told to put it at 93%. Wow, i could not handle the lower set, so i have it at about 1/2 litre and i still feel sore or burning in the lungs. Has anyone experienced that feeling and will it go away or would i have an infection starting, don't know if they tested for that, but am sure they did. Help

glad you are getting it figured out. Did your dr do a 6-minute walk test? Those have helped me know when to 'adjust' mine over the years & also a yearly sleep test to see if I am getting enough 02 at night (when respiratory rates drop). Night is big for me; if I get too low at night, it messes up my whole day; I wake up with my heart racing & very lethargic. Luckily my 02 supplier does a 'free' finger monitor sleep study any time my dr orders one for me so I can have one in the comfort of my home & know what is going on!
I was trying to remember if my lungs 'burned' when i was first put on 02 (in 2010---needed 2LPM @ night & when active, but none when just sitting)....I don't remember my lungs 'burning' but they "hurt'' & every dr i went to said lungs can't hurt; it was very frustrating....finally had a dr the listened & "understood' me ---maybe lungs can't 'hurt' but the plural area around them sure can!----it seems every year I go thru a "oxygen adjustment period'' to get 'the comfortable amount. (going thru it again now) So don't give up, it takes some 'adjusting' but once you get it figured out, you'll feel so much better!

OH yeah----and sometimes I have to remember to use my "pursed lip breathing" when SOB( it is good to do it when not needing it to get in the 'habit') ; but also I have a tendency to walk fast & i have to remember to 'pace' myself (my turtle pace as spike would say) or i get sooo SOB! here is a good youtube link on pursed lip breathing;

Hi Jarca, thank you so much for listening and the support on my problems. I can breath on my own, but just for a few minutes and if i don't move to much it won't go down, so instead of putting nasal thing on and off, i leave it on. My therapist is 2 hours away, she was here before xmas, and had the finger monitor on me and said i was at 96, its to high, she wanted me at 93, wow, so when i got the other concentrator that went lower than 1 litre, she set it real low and that is when i didn't feel good. So i put it so that the ball just touches the 1/2 litre. But, you see that is for sitting and bedtime,, with the concentrator, and to move around i need the oxygen tank, and it starts at .05 and i put it at 1litre, that gets me to the washroom or bedroom, and sit a bit before i go back, then back on the concentrator, so the fluxuation is from 1 litre to below 1/2 litre, maybe that is why i get a bit dizzy, does that make sense. I use to be good at 3/4 of a litre, but when told i was retaining Co2, i had to lower the intake. What do you think?

gosh, i started off at 2lpm active & sleeping from the very begining. It wasn't until around my 3rd year that i needed it sitting. I don't retain 02 so i try to keep my 02 around 96% so if i do get up & do something it doesn't drop so much---or anyway that worked for me until this past year or so when i need 2LPM sitting, but have really increased my need when moving= i'm still trying to figure that out.

Hi Jarca, i guess i shouldn't complain when i am at 1/2 a litre at rest, but i assume eventually i will be higher in litres. I have notice now, when i eat, my oxygen goes down, that sucks. Today i am having heart fluttering, have you ever had that? I am hoping it will go away. I am on a new blood pressure pill since last tuesday, because my heart wouldn't stop pounding and it would stay at 122, my pulse just sitting, and took a long time to settle down. I will be seeing a heart specialist when one can fit me in for an appointment. Most likely he or she will say, the more i move the more my heart races which means i need more oxygen. Oh dear, i do not like this life right now, but will fight for proper medical care that i can get to feel better. Anyways, you take care and please feel free to chat anytime, i would like that. Bye for now.

Peg. I know you were chatting with Jarica, and I don't mean to overstep anyone, I just can relate to you on the breathing, if I lift my arms, to say hang curtains, My heart pounds and I get so out of breath, I will check my oxygen levels, and It says I'm fine, but Im so out of breath. Like the other day I was dusting my ceiling in my room with a long Duster, looking up with my arms up, I became very dizzy out of breath heart pounding I had to come and lay in my chair and I got so sick that I ended up throwing up. Now this has happened to me twice this week, I don't know if it's my nerves because of everything I'm going through or if I'm getting sicker? I'm also on blood pressure medication, my heart does race sometimes when I check it it will go to 1:40 just from walking around and cleaning. My doctor noticed as well that my heart rate goes up a very fast. But my oxygen levels were fine go figure. I just hope we both feel better, and just take it easy and try to think about happy thoughts like I do. It's very hard when you're going through this, to actually think about happy thoughts, but I've found that if I go on YouTube and look up meditations and relaxation methods it does help me. It is very nice to meet you and I hope you feel better and know that I'm thinking about you. Love, Gail XOXOXOXO 💜💛💜💛💜💛💜💛💜💛💜

lavishgail,
"... dusting my ceiling in my room" My reaction - you have got to be kidding! (smile). Try not to look up anymore! You're too valuable for that kind of nonsense.
Quote from the serenity prayer is in order:
"God, grant me the serenity
To accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change the things I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference."
If God had wanted us to dust the ceiling, he would have given us longer arms. Really!

I had perfect blood pressure all my life, even when pregnant. A few years ago it skyrocketed (190/90) & lots of 'fibrilations'---My daughter has had it for years & was on a beta blocker that worked good, but i was told COPD'ers arent supposed to do beta blockers. So I went with an ARB, which is supposed to be like an ace inhibitor, but without the cough side effect. I ended up on max dose before my BP got under control, but this past year i've had a problem with it going high again. however, when we got looking into problems i'm having this year my thyroid was found to be whacky so i'm not changing any meds until i get that under control & see if it had anything to do with my BP going high again.
So yes, i'm on BP med but i also get those "heart fluttering" ---i seem to notice it the most when i lay down; it comes & goes & when I have worn a monitor to check it, it doesn't do it (of course) so now i just live with it & when it happens i try to focus on something else so i dont 'scare' myself & make it worse. (it's scary to me when it happens )---it has seemed to get better over time, but it does still happen now & then.
I was taught that high pulse can be because of low 02. the heart & lungs are a team, so when the lungs aren't working right the heart beats faster to make try to get the 02 up. BUT remember, everyone is different!!! I have a "low resting pulse" that can be as low as 48bpm, but averages 56bpm resting---so if i get to 139bpm i feel like i'm going to have a heart attack (& at that point i'm usually breathing so hard it's scary) I was told to try to monitor my 02 to keep 02 above 90% but pulse down around normal (for me)when sitting. and when walking around to keep my 02 above 90% (the magic number) & my pulse under about 130-135 max for me.
each person needs to work with thier DR on things like this as we are all different. I do think that on supplemental 02 or not, a persons pulse should be about what it has always been 'normally' for you.
