Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone on here that has copd has developed high sugar levels, because we don't excercise enough, when we are on oxygen. I was just put on Metformin a half a pill a day, because my sugar was at 11 last week. I have been keeping track with the One Touch meter and it is lower in the morning first thing before i eat about a 5.1 or so, but at night 2 hours after i eat, the highest was 10.1 tonight. Guess i will have to take a hole pill , will check with doctor. Anyone else have this problem?

Hi Peg, Anytime I have pneumonia which is at least 4 times a year with this lung disease I have, they put me on Prednisone and while on them I always get high sugar. They also put me on Metformin and I became allergic to it. I had diarrhea that would not stop no matter what I did. She did tell me I was going to have some diarrhea so I didn't bother telling them and I had it for almost 3 months. Finally when I went to my appointment she looked at me and said wow you've lost a lot of weight and I had like 30 lb all because I was allergic to that pill. So be careful while on that pill, if you get extreme diarrhea please be sure to speak with your doctor about this. I wish you well and I hope it works for you. By the way my diabetes went away when I lost all the weight, go figure what a way to lose weight yuck.
But in the meantime I always have to keep track of my sugar and sometimes it's too low and other times it's too high. So I am sure to take precautions.
I wish you much luck and happiness and breathe easy my friend love Gail

Thanks for the insight lavishgail. I am on 1/2 of Metformin and no diarrhea, wish some days i had a bit, but i only weigh 87lbs so can't afford it. I guess i am not moving around enough to keep the sugar at bay, but you know it is hard moving around while on oxygen, it is a real effort and hard on us. I have been taking the tests, morning and night, and the one touch says on average 7.2, so will tell the doctor. I have been watching what i eat and try and stay away from the sugar, but it is in all the food, i get discouraged, i can't eat anything to put weight on , cause the darn food all has sugar in it. If he puts me on a whole pill that might help. Might give me the runs, will watch for that, thanks for the heads up. Now that you mentioned that my husband is very active but is also on metformin, but he is on 1/2 in morning and 1/2 at night and he has been saying he chits 3 times a day, so will have to tell him to check with the doctor, because he didn''t do that before the pill. I am happy for you are off the pill now, and watching your sugar, good for you, keep up the great work. Thanks for listening. Will let you know how i do. Take care.
