Pipi
We live next door to a primary school, for our kids it was an extension of home after hours, play on the fields, learnt to ride bikes on the sealed areas etc. On this day they came home and told us a local boy had a pup over there all day and had gone home and dumped the pup, we checked it out and found the boy had been given the dog but when he took it home Mum said no. So we took it home, not a healthy dog, dull eyes indicatated worms, this in turn left the pup rather run down. We still had Vanessa and really did not want another dog, we resolved to get the dog in good condition then find a home for her. Shortly after this it was Fathers day, when asked my preference for a gift I replied a puppy, which is what they wanted to hear. She was German Shepard with perhaps some Labrador thrown in, the first thing I did was to name her Pipi, up to then Marilyn had called her Poopi, she had bad toilet habits when we first brought her home. Rather a lazy dog her idea of a walk was to go to the school and watch the kids arrive, a very gentle dog, in fact over coming years she was responsible for converting many kids to animal lovers. She would sit and greet the teachers every morning and the children, one teacher she was very fond of and managed a very authentic HELLOOOOO. Watching the teacher and Pip exchange greetings was a fun start to the day. She loved the company of other German Shepards and often brought them home, the only dog we have ever had to bring her friends home. She would bring them in doors and bang the biscuit cupboard with her paw, this would make the door bounce open, then she would sit and wait for us to give her a biscuit plus one for a friend. For a long time she never barked, then when she started it was an exact copy of older Vanessa, the odd thing was ‘Nessa never barked once Pip started. One Shepard she used to bring home was called Lucky, who was not very lucky, little of the spoiling our dogs got, I remember him as the dog that wagged his body, the tail stayed still, it used to look so funny. At one time the owners of Lucky went away for a while, Pip brought him home for a feed, up to then I don’t think he had ever had a bath, Marilyn refused to have smelly Lucky in the house and bathed him. He looked like a champion after that, what a difference a bath makes, he was with us for several weeks before the owners returned, we often wondered if they noticed how nice he looked. One trick she did learn at a young age was if she stood front of TV one of the kids would get her a biscuit, then give it to her off to the side, I did have to counter that by placing the TV a bit higher. She remained a lazy dog all her life, if you wanted to take her for a walk you had to sneak up on her, if she knew a walk was imminent she would hide. Never a brave dog I remember one time we had a commotion in the street, it ended up with police and ambulance involved, without going into detail our place ended up like a battle zone. During the small hours I remembered our Pip and looked for her, found her under the boys bed.

I have never heard of a dog that didn't like to go for a walk. She sounds like she was very unusual, but clever also.

Pipi must have been an extremely intelligent dog. My goodness don't you sometimes wonder what goes through their minds? Did those neighbors just go off and leave Lucky alone without anyone caring for her or did they ask you to do it? You have had your bad luck with irresponsible neighbors who don't take very good care of their pets. Right now I'm ROFLOL about her hiding under the boys bed. Poor thing.
