.
A few moments ago, I jut got back from our seasonal camp site. We have a Travel Trailer on a lot in a privately owned camp ground. Nice little place along a clean lake, has a large open field (for a family games park) and the other campers treat us nice as well. Being near the end of our 2nd year, my wife & I are starting to know the other seasonal campers as well. Thus, we are starting to hop from camp fire to camp fire - as our kids are within eyes and hearing distance - during their earlier bed time. During the weekend, I noticed that over 50% of the adults in this Camp Ground smoke. At the camp fire last night, 5 of the 11 folks smoked. Near the rest area (at the main gat), I noticed 7 of the 9 people smoked at lunch time today. I hear some guy cutting his grass and the noticed he had a cigarrette hanging out his mouth as well. Yes, while pushing his gas engine lawn mower around while in open toed sandles.
At "adult hour" camp fire time, My wife and I noticed 50% of the adult campers smoke. Yet, the smoking average is around 20% (based on the office environment where I work). At times, I often wonder. Most folks go camping to be closer with nature, closer to the clean air and in many ways, "enjoying the clean out doors". Yet, 50% of the adults still have a cigarette hanging out their mouth.
At times, life makes me really wonder... Wonder why people do the things they do. Too bad it took me 30 years to "stop smoking". Should have stopped many years ago... Hopefully, more adults at my seasonal camp fire stop smoking as well...

Spike Good observation ;
My experience is that very few people stop anything that gives them pleasure until it hurts them personally. I know that to be true in my case anyway

Exactly John, it is too bad we do not learn by others mistakes, cause it would certainly save us a lot of grief... It is like when someone slams their finger in a car door we can sympathize for them but we don't feel it...and I am glad we can't, cause we would be hurting all the time...

Here at work a couple of years ago, there were only four or five people who would go out to the smoking area and smoke. Now, I have noticed that the younger people being hired are outside smoking on their breaks. I asked my son why it seems that more and more of our young people are smoking these days when they "do" know the hazzards of it. He said that he thinks it is because smoking is dangerous and young middle school students want to be "cool" and also do it because it is considered "dangerous."....like speeding. That does break my heart, and we might be seeing a new generation of young people now in their early twenties who are already hooked on cigarettes. It's sad.

I'm another one that didn't quit till it "hurt" me. I'm just thankful that neither of my children ever started smoking. I think they're glad too after seeing what I've gone through.
