For almost 5 years, we've been sending our 2 kids off to summer camp. They go for 7-10 days and during their adventure, they learn many different things. Swimming, water safety, bush survival, cliff / rack wall climbing, etc. etc. Think of Scouts Canada but through a different free organization.
A few weekends ago, we bought a canoe. Our little "red rocket" to allow us more water sports fun in life. On the first day, my middle son showed my wife & I how to properly paddle and steer this water craft. We both have the proper arm strength but lacked the detailed tricks of properly controlling it. For over 4 hours, my middle son showed us how to properly control our new canoe. All those years of summer camp adventures paid off. He taught us something we didn't know. And, he earned our respect "as a young adult" that day as well...
What has your kids or grand kids taught you?
Just wondering...

Last year, I was getting really upset about something. Life wasn't going very well, my body was in daily pain (from health problems), work was making me upset, etc. etc. The typical loosing battles on too many fronts at the same time. I was doing a small task with my son (who was 11 at the time) and for some reason, I started laying into him. Just like my dad sometimes layed into me - when he was very angry. My son calmly looked at me and said, "perhaps you need a time out?". If I said that to my father, he would have instantly nailed me in the face - with a closed fist. For my son, I suddenly looked and him (and thinking I will never hit my kid - like my father hit me) and said, "you are right". I then walked away from him and had a 4 hour sleep. From that day forward, I will always remember that event. The time my son told me that "I needed a time out". In other words, I had to excuse myself from others and get my life back under control.
Hope this helps others....
