, Some of you will remember that today was the day to see the surgeon for the second time. I thought I should put up a post. We have a date for surgery but right now it is temporary until confirmed. It will be confirmed by Friday. It will be May 16th. It will be 7 to 10 days max in hospital without any unexpected problems. Problems are not the norm. She said he could be out in 5 or 6. Hold off on posts/comment to this topic and I will come back and post the definite information when confirmed. Otherwise we go thru this twice. I will just use this same thread. I have not been over here much at all the last couple months. Hope I didn't miss anything important. I say that just in case I missed something I would have normally responded on. I am just getting caught up. I just hope the surgery doesn't put us into the turmoil we have been in. I don't expect it will. Thanks for all the prayers. We know they had a lot to do with where we are at. We are doing pretty good now, almost normal.

Thanks, Jackie, Linda and Joyce. I miss you all. Here is the date.
The date of Joe's Lung surgery will be Friday, May 16th. It will be by incision and not VATS.
If all goes well, will be 7 to 10 days in the hospital, possibly 5 to 6. Two to three months recovery. First six weeks not lift anything over 10 lbs. May be on oxygen for while and maybe not. Surgeon was not too concerned as Joe's FEV1 (lung function) was 81% before inhaler and 87% after. He can drive when done with OTC pain meds.
He is feeling better each day after such a difficult and sick time during his chemo and radiation. Not looking forward to surgery. If all goes well, and I feel it is going to, then this is the best outcome he could have for his diagnosis.
Thanks for the thoughts and prayers and encouraging words and cards. Please keep the prayers coming.

Mary; you and Joe will remain with us and we'll remain here, with and for, the two of you.
I am pleased that they've shrunk it enough for surgery. You already know that surgery is the best option for nsclc and it thrills me that it's a viable option now for him!
Way to go you two! We'll be with you all the way!

Thanks Linndie and Ellen. We can use the prayers and always helps to know people care.
Ellen, I hope I am right but I have a good feeling about this. I couldn't say that when we first started though. My son met with the surgeon the first time with my husband. I went the 2nd time. We all like her and she came highly recommended. Love the rose.
Thanks again

Thank you all for the prayers. We can use all we can get. I probably won't be online tomorrow night. Our son should arrive tomorrow night from out of State. My husband has to be at the hospital by 7:30 AM Friday and the surgery is 10 AM.
We are getting nervous about it and yet we are doing ok considering. He has regained most everything, but his hair, since his treatments stopped. You wouldn't know he was sick this week. Never started losing his hair until couple weeks ago (after the treatments). It kept coming out and so he went today and had the rest cut off. Sad to go into a hospital feeling well and knowing how much you won't feel well many of the upcoming days.
I will post when I know something. I am not sure if that might not be on Saturday. Thanks again.

Mary, know that you and your family remain in my prayers. I pray that God guides the surgeons hands and all involved, and directs each move. God knows you need a break, he loves you all. God bless.
