I had expected to be doing an update before now. Just couldn't keep up with everything. One update for several places. Joe is still in the hospital. His surgery last Friday went well. He was originally told to plan 7 to 10 days for going home from hospital but possible 5 to 6. He didn't make the short stay list. He is still there. He is off the oxygen as of today and will stay off if his saturation stays at least 92. He still has the draining chest tube and that is what keeps him from coming home yet. Looks like at least a couple more days. Pain medication is in pill form now. Still getting some IV's. I think the hold up might have been that his walking was delayed, and that got him behind. Things went well. The surgeon and the Oncology Dr are both pleased. They removed his right lower lobe and middle lobe and some lymph nodes. If he has more chemo, it cannot be before 6 weeks. Not sure if they will even do that at this point. Right now the focus is to recover. The lobes and lymph nodes removed had all dead cancer cells except for one lymph node. Again, we feel very blessed as there was a point after the cancer diagnosis that surgery sounded a pretty remote possibility. We are very thankful for all the prayers. I sure think of all of you during the past week. I will stay in touch yet as he recovers. I just won't be heard from as often for a while. I have not been able to read the boards and so if I missed anything that is why.
