. One of my coworkers is on Oxygen 24/7. He never smoked in his life, never worked in dirty / dusty environments and he always loves the clean air great outdoors. To this day, he still doesn't know why his lungs are failing and he needs a lung transplant.
A few moments ago, he told me that his oxygen machine records how many hours it was "in use" during the month. He then gives the hourly numbers to his oxygen supply company and a 2 months later, they send him an electrical reimburstment cheque. Thus, covering the electrical cost of that machine's electricity usage (from its prevoius month usage).
For those of you who are on Oxygen, do you get your machine's electrical usage cost covered as well? If so, how is it done for you?
Just wondering...

No one has ever mentioned it to me. I am on 24/7 and it does run up a bit. I imagine some places more than others depending on where you live. Mine is probably about a $25./month cost.

The following is the cost of running my concentrator for a year. Last year I sent it in with my medical receipts and was allowed the deduction for income tax purposes. I will do the same thing this year.
Concentrator motor: 4 Amp Voltage: 125 VAC Power output per hour: 4 x 125 = 500 Watts Output per day: 500 x 24 = 12,000 Watts Output per year: 12,000 x 365 = 4,380,000 Watts Kilowatts per year: 4,380,000/1000 = 4,380 Kilowatts Cost per year: 4,380 x $0.0922 = $403.84 HST @ 15%: $60.58 Total: $464.42

For Muffin or anyone else that is in the United States, here is a link about figuring the Electrical Costs of o2 concentrator. www.portableoxygen.org/questionandanswers.html#electricityJust click on the link that goes down to Concentrator's Electrical Cost. I did take this deduction on my taxes, when I was able to itemize in the first couple years on o2. Sometimes, too, it pays to call the electric companys and they may have a special list to put you on if they know you are dependent on o2. Where I am, they are suppose to let me know if they know there is going to be an outage for any length of time. I know these subjects don't come up too often. Phil, glad you are sounding better. Hope you really are feeling better. If not, you need to rest a little more. BTW, Phil, everytime I think of you now, I see you on your scooter, zipping by. I used to picture you sitting on your porch with your family. Its a good visualization tho, either way.

My o2 cost us about 100.00 a month according to AEP which I think is high. And what I find stranger is when I was in the hospital all those months. My machine was off. But, our bill stayed the same. Tom called them on it and they gave him some story that there was a leak or something in it and that was the problem. We had it checked all was ok. They are still tryin to come up with a reason. Even after a year we still feel we were cheated. And probaly the truth is we always will be.
